The second trial of a man who is accused of beating his pregnant wife to death in their North Carolina home began with testimony from the dead woman's sister that the defendant was unfaithful with multiple mistresses.

Jason Young, 37, is on trial for first-degree murder a second time after a jury was deadlocked while deliberating last July. Michelle Young was 29 years old and five months pregnant with their second child when she was found face-down in a pool of blood by her sister, Meredith Fisher, in 2006.

Jason Young was released from jail in July 2011 after posting a $900,000 bond but now could face life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.

Fisher went to the couple's house after receiving a voicemail from Jason Young asking her to do a favor and see if she could find an item in the house near the computer.

In emotional testimony, Fisher described finding her sister, who was a star employee at Progress Energy, beaten with her then 2-year-old daughter, Cassidy, nearby.

"That's the small of her back, that I touched her and felt that she was cold," Fisher recalled.

Fisher tried to encourage Cassidy, the only witness and now age 7, to speak on the 911 call: "Sweetie do you know what happened to mommy? Did she fall?" Cassidy responded "She's got boo-boos everywhere."

Young says that he was at a hotel on a business trip in Hillsville, Va., 160 miles from their home in Raleigh, the night that his wife died.

The prosecution argued that Young drove back from Hillsville that night to murder Michelle, and then tampered with the hotel's security equipment to cover his tracks.

Keith Hicks, a worker at the hotel, testified that he found an unplugged security camera and an open emergency exit door.

Prosecutors say that Young cheated on his wife – an allegation that is not denied by defense and was corroborated in the man's first trial by two women. One of the mistresses to testify was a childhood friend of Jason Young and the other an ex-sorority sister of Michelle's -- both said they had sexual relationships with Jason Young in the months leading up to the murder of his wife.

"He's acted like an obnoxious, juvenile jerk. But what you've got to remember ladies and gentlemen, is that we don't convict people of murder, just because they act like jerks," said Young's lawyer.

In the first trial, Young's defense argued that the mystery behind the young mother's death remains unsolved, and that the killers are still on the loose.

Jason Young, Michelle's husband, showed no emotion as the court listened to Fisher's emergency call. In a rare move during his first trial Young took the stand in his own defense and tearfully denied having any involvement with his wife's murder, telling jurors he that while he was not a model husband, he loved Michelle and had nothing to do with her death.

In his first trial he jury deliberated over the course of three days. The deadlock resulted in eight votes in favor of acquittal and four for conviction.

Police: Everett woman, 33, vanishes without a trace

EVERETT, Wash. - Everett police are asking for help from the public in locating a 33-year-old woman who vanished early Monday and hasn't been seen since.

The missing woman, Meara Lynn Nichols, was last seen by her husband at about 6 a.m. Monday before he left for work. She wasn't at home when he returned.

The husband checked with friends, but none of them had seen her or knew where she might be. He then reported her disappearance to the police.

According to the husband, Meara does not have her own car, and he used the one vehicle they own to drive to work on Monday.

His wife also left behind many personal belongings, including her purse, at the couple's home in the 6800 block of Commercial Avenue, said Sgt. Robert Goetz of the Everett Police Department.

The husband allowed detectives to search their home, but nothing suspicious was found. He also agreed to a polygraph test, which he passed. Detectives say they do not consider him a person of interest in Meara's disappearance.

Goetz said Meara has no history of mental illness.

She is described as standing 5-feet-1-inch tall and weighing 110 pounds, with hazel eyes and dark brown hair. She also has a pierced lower left lip.

She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black Carhart jacket, black shoes with white soles, black-rimmed glasses and a black baseball cap.

(CBS) ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Police in Anchorage are looking for a missing 18-year-old woman last seen working as a barista at a drive-through coffee stand Wednesday night.
NBC affiliate KTUU reports that APD spokesperson Lt. Dave Parker says Samantha Koenig was working at Common Grounds Espresso when she was last seen at 8 p.m. Authorities say her shift ended at that time, but she was not there when her boyfriend came to pick her up.

Law enforcement officials are looking at the surveillance video from the coffee stand and possibly a nearby business. At this time, there is no evidence of foul play, police say.

Samantha Koenig's father, James Koenig, said he believes his daughter was taken from her place of work. He says everything seemed to be normal with his daughter, and that he had spoken to her earlier that evening. It is not like her to take off, he said.

"At this time we're contacting her friends, family, all the people that know her, trying to find out if anyone saw her, if anyone heard from her," says Sgt. Slawomir Markiewicz.

Alaska court records show Koenig filed for a protective order against a man in November, but she did not appear in court and the order was never issued.

Samantha Koenig is 5 feet 4 inches tall, 160 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on Koenig's whereabouts is asked to call APD at 907-786-8900.

"The armed man walked to the Common Grounds Espresso stand on Tudor Road near Gambell Street about 8 p.m. Wednesday and forced Koenig to leave with him on foot, headed east toward the Old Seward Highway, said Detective Slawomir Markiewicz."

"The turquoise coffee stand with purple trim sits in the parking lot of the Alaska Club at 630 E. Tudor Road. A large snow berm makes it difficult to see from Tudor Road."

"Police did not release a detailed description of the man Friday other than saying he appeared to be wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and possibly a baseball cap. Koenig is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. Markiewicz said the man was significantly taller."

Brief Visions Visions of a young man with long (slightly wavy; somewhat dirty or stringy) dark brown hair, dressed in like green Army jacket - reminds me of military type clothing. Young baby face...blue eyes.

I see him holding a rifle. Keep hearing VERY LOUDLY...shot after shot in my visions. He aims right on target and shoots. He's in a wooded, possibly somewhat secluded area. He's says he's hunting. Messed up in his head.

For now, putting it down for my reference as still working with it.

Charles Stephen Parker - Missing - 1/15/12 - Monroe, Georgia

Charles Stephen Parker, 25, was last seen at church in Lithonia on Sunday. Charles' brother, Patrick said Charles was going to look at some business property he wanted to purchase, because he was planning on starting his own business.

Authorities found Charles' black 2010 Chrysler 300 on Hoyt Street near College Avenue, Wednesday morning. Some of Charles' belonging were found and turned into the police. Charles' wallet and gym bag were also found in another area.

A witness stated they saw Charles in Athens about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

"I am trying to be hopeful - that is all I can do," Kenisha Parker, Charles' wife said after a Wednesday press conference at the Monroe Police Station. "They have found everything but him. He is the missing piece and all we want is for him to come home."

Charles works at the Bank of America in Monroe as the asst. branch manager.

Charles is 5'10" tall and weighs 165 pounds. He was wearing a black suit, black tie and white shirt when he left church.

Authorities early Wednesday morning found a car north of downtown Athens that belonged to a Monroe man who has been missing since Sunday.

Investigators are not ruling out the possibility that 25-year-old Charles Stephen Parker was the victim of foul play, according to Jim Fullington, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Athens field office.

“As with every missing-person case, we are treating it with the possibility that there could be a crime involved,” Fullington said. “We don’t have any evidence of foul play at the moment, but it is suspicious.”

After attending church in Lithonia on Sunday, Parker drove to Athens to look at some business property he was thinking about purchasing, according to his brother, Patrick Parker. His brother currently works for Bank of America, but was planning on starting his own business, Patrick Parker said.

Athens-Clarke police found Parker’s black 2010 Chrylser 300 parked on the side of Hoyt Street near College Avenue early this morning, Fullington said. Also, someone found some of the man’s belongings and turned them in to police, the agent said. And, investigators located someone who saw Charles Parker in Athens about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Fullington said.

GBI and Monroe police crime scene investigators are examining Parker’s car for evidence.

Charles Parker routinely is in constant touch with his wife and other family members, and it’s unlike him to not let them know where he is or not show up for work.

“Someone always knows where Charles is, so this is very much out of character for him,” Patrick Parker said. “I believe my brother is alive and we’re all praying we will find him.”

Family members planned to post fliers with the missing man’s photograph throughout Athens.

When he left home Sunday, Parker was wearing a black suit, black tie and white shirt. He is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds.

Lions, Tigers, and Monkeys

I had a dream last night that these animals are on the loose, from another pet mill or sanctuary of some sort. Only this time, the lions and tigers start going after people because of their hunger. Police are called. I can see about 3 or 4 gaping holes in the fencing where these animals (lions and tigers) are moved from holding cages down this long sort of path that is surrounded by chain link fence. Unfortunately, these animals will too, have to be put down. Seeing much smaller monkeys, smaller than chimps...that are also on the loose. Not sure if this is the same incident or not as the lions and tigers, but it feels the same...like a pet mill or sanctuary.

GRAND COULEE—
Jamie Breckenridge is 42-years-old and was last seen January 8 at the Union 76 station in Grand Coulee. Police had contacted her the day before on a domestic violence call.

Breckenridge told police at the time that she wanted to get away from Grand Coulee and go to Snohomish. So far, there has been no sign of her in Snohomish.

Breckenridge also missed a court date in Grant County on Tuesday, January 17. She was accused of hitting a woman during an argument in a supermarket in August.

Now, Breckenridge's family is worried about her and seek help in finding her. When she was last seen, she was wearing a white ski cap, black coat, and jeans.

The family of woman they have not seen since Sunday night is concerned and has alerted Grand Coulee Police.

Jamie Breckenridge, 43, was last seen Sunday night between 6 and 7:30 p.m. at Tim’s 4-Corners Union 76 at the intersection of highways 174 and 155 in Grand Coulee.

Breckenridge stands about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds.

Breckenridge had recently moved out of her house and was staying with a friend in Delano, her mother Carol Estrada said.

Breckenridge had a court date set for Jan. 17 and plans to visit friends on the coast after that, Estrada said. Those friends have not seen her either, she said.

Jason Reil, 33, was last seen by his father on the morning of Jan. 12. [at 6 AM]

Jason Reil had stopped by Doug Reil’s Brunswick home the night before and said he hadn’t been sleeping or taking his medications. He also was delusional and began talking about government conspiracies....

Jason Reil walked out the door that morning wearing khakis, a green pullover sweater and leather shoes. He left his jacket and gloves at his father’s house and left his phone and keys at his apartment on Federal Street in Brunswick."

Friend "I talked to him at Rhymer's around that time. He was seeing if I would volunteer with him at The Salvation Army helping with the meals there. He seemed fine then. He was always smiling so nothing seemed to be bothering him."

Darrell Kirk tells The Associated Press that Ronald Kirk sent a text message Jan. 16 or Jan. 17 saying it was a warm day and he was going hiking in Las Vegas.

Ronald Kirk was reported missing Sunday. Police say they don't suspect foul play.

The search has focused since Monday around where Kirk's vehicle was found in the rugged Calico Basin area west of Las Vegas.

Darrell Kirk says a police helicopter, running club members on foot and another brother in Las Vegas haven't found any trace of him.
