Police And Volunteers Search For Missing Ohio Woman On Her Birthday August 17, 2011. On her 22nd birthday and the first anniversary of her engagement, more than 100 people joined a search for a missing Ohio woman Tuesday.

Katelyn Markham was last seen at her Fairfield home by her fiancé late Saturday night. John Carter told the Middletown Journal that he left her townhouse around 11:30 pm that night and received a picture from her via text message at 12:52 am Sunday. She did not respond to texts he sent the following morning and did not show up for work at a bridal shop in a nearby mall.

Carter told the newspaper that he was concerned when he could not reach her, so he went to her townhouse looking for her and found her car there. Her purse and her keys were inside her home and her dog had been locked in her bedroom. However, her cell phone was gone.

Nobody has heard from Markham since the picture she sent Carter early Sunday. According to information posted by the Ohio Attorney General's Office, Markham's cell phone and its GPS tracking device were turned off around 12:45 am Sunday.

Police have reportedly found no evidence of foul play at this point, but they are considering all possible explanations for Markham's disappearance.

Carter told the Cincinnati Enquirer that Markham was planning to graduate from the Art Institute of Ohio-Cincinnati this fall and that the couple had discussed moving to Colorado after that. He said she seemed excited about their future.

Friends agreed that it would be out of character for Markham to leave without telling anyone. Still, after three days with no sign of her, Carter has not lost hope.

"I just feel and know in my heart that she's alive and we're just doing what we can to bring her home," he said to Local 12.

Katelyn Markham is described as 5'4", 130 lbs. with green eyes and brown hair.

the water tower is one thing then - possibly "W" is the name of an area and has WATER in the name -

I hope it is okay that I trimmed down the article a little bit so as not to overload the page with repetition. The only other change I made was to highlight the times. Is it a typo that Carter received a photo from her at 12:52 a.m. and the AG says it had been turned off at 12:45 a.m.? That is a seven minute discrepancy. Isn't it? I know that sometimes there can be a delay but isn't that excessive given the hour? Just a thought. Thanks.

From what I've read in other articles, her fiance said that his phone is extremely delayed and it's not unusual for texts to come through awhile after they were sent. I can't remember what article I read that on that.

And I'm wracking my brain trying to think of a place with a water tower that has water in the name around here. My first thoughts were Hamilton or Trenton which are close to where she disappeared from.

Keep trying Britt, you'll come up with the water tower. That could be really important.

What unsettles me is that she sent the picture between the time he left 11:30 and the time the phone was turned off 12:45. The AG knows exactly what time the picture message left her phone by her phone records just like they know exactly what time the phone was turned off. In watching the newscast I felt the official speaking placed great emphasis on their ability to comb her cell/financial record transactions.

Also, she was a very talented artist and she prided herself in working in all mediums. That would include photography. She was waiting for a response as she did for all of her creations and wouldn't have turned off her phone. Her disappearance is related to someone very close to her.

From the aerial view of White Water, OH...it fits a lot of the descriptions from Reba. Seems like it anyway from what I can see from google maps. I don't know, might be worth checking out?

On my way to work today, I passed two different water towers, one in Wyoming and one in Glendale, but they don't fit with anything else.

I have no abilities whatsoever, but I am also unsettled by the phone issue and feel the same way about it being someone close to her.

The boyfriend didn't acknowledge the receipt of the picture at all? Not a "thx!", "luv u" "nice!" or anything? If he didn't acknowledge, has he indicated why? Is there any information as to whether the photo was current or from a prior time? Sorry for being stuck on this but sending your own picture is a very personal act and my thoughts are drawn to 1) why she felt the need to send a picture (what was she trying to say or evoke from him, she wasn't a vain person) and 2)why didn't he acknowledge her gift....

From the moment I saw her picture, I felt 'boyfriend responsible'. Something about him isn't right, can't shake this feeling..

There are a great many unanswered questions here. I hope the standard polygraph's and searches of people's vehicles who were closest to her are forthcoming - soon. Personally, the only time I would leave my home without my purse/keys and carrying only my cell phone would be if I were leaving with someone who 1) had a key to my place so we could get back in and 2)would be expected to pick up the tab for any expenses - snacks, etc. Any witnesses to them being at the townhouse that night during the hours he states? His car there? Any friends have contact with them that evening?

I can't imagine the stress in the lives of those that love her after all this time passing. I can imagine the loss of sleep and frantic thoughts and I am sure that things that are said that can be mis-interpreted. However, there are several statements that Carter has made that are concerning. I had a vision that the person responsible for her disappearance sent the text picture in the moments before they destroyed the phone. Katelyn didn't send the picture. The phone was physically crushed, slammed in a door or stomped on and has the person's fingerprints all over it. The phone was disposed of in receptacle at a public venue like a fair, celebration or gathering where it got mixed in with a lot of other waste and was removed to a landfill.

Is Katelyn's apt/condo complex near Joyce Park/Optimist soccer fields?
From the description I read somewhere that's where I thought she lived.
There's a big creek across the street from that Marathon Station - if I'm in the right place. There aren't many Marathon stations around.

I'm certain there is a watertower southeast of there - going down old Winton Road
towards Kemper - in Forest Park (?) Winton Woods school district. I'm not sure where Forest Park ends and Fairfield begins.

On looking at her picture I also saw water. But I also have a very clear image of snow in my mind. I don't want to describe the image too greatly, because there's still time between now and when I believe this image is coming from.

But I see snow. Probably about a few inches deep and there are bare bushes surrounding the image. The bushes have thorns in them, but I don't know if it's a random set of wild plants or if it's landscaping near someone's property.

Is there a watertower in Water works park near Little Miami Nature Trail...I just glanced and went there automatically...So I don't know...but, I also get water she's in..The person who sent the photo was definetly setting up an alibi...

Some of the posts he made on there have been disturbing me as much as some of the comments he's made to the news. In particular, this one in the news article : "the only thing that's not there is her cell phone, which is positive, but she's not answering it, and the Sacred Heart festival is going on right up the street and there are a lot of questionable people there, I'm sorry,"

It's from the 911 call. That statement just seems strange to me.

I will ask my husband about a farm North of Fairfield with water in the name. Camden, Oxford, Trenton, even Waynesville..all those areas have country roads, farms, etc.

I haven't read anything more regarding the photo. Just that it was of her and it was sent before her phone, and conveniently the GPS, were turned off. There hasn't been any word as to if he tried to respond to the picture. And don't worry about being stuck on it. It has been on my mind too. Was it normal for her to send a picture before she went to bed for the night? What exactly was the picture of as the only thing that is coming out is them saying a picture of her? To me, it seems like she would take a picture of art that she had done or the moon or something of that nature as opposed to herself.

There are many church festivals going on nearby. As Carter was quoted above as saying, the Sacred Heart Church Festival is one that is quite near to where her townhouse is, so there would have been plenty of places for a phone to be disposed of at a festival or carnival or fair.

That is my first impression as well, especially after seeing his face.

There is a creek right across the street from the Marathon in the area you're talking about - you can't really see it from the road because the tress/bushes/brush hide it from view. And I'm positive there's a water tower south of there - in my minds eye I'm seeing it near John Gray Road and the country club.
I drove to joyce park (about 30 minutes) and back at least 2 times a week during spring soccer season. I went up Winton Road to Sharon (left turn) to Mill Road (I think it's Mill) Sharon dead ends into Mill and there's the entrance to the Hamilton County Golf Course on the opposite side of the street. Turn right on Mill and at some point the name changes to old Winton Road (?) or maybe that's just how everyone refers to it?? Then turn right on Niles and right on River.
I'm positive somewhere along that route I have seen a water tower.
The W could be for Winton Woods - or Winton Woods school district.

Correction: I turned left on Niles - there's a school on the left hand side of that corner - then up to River and turn right.

This is nuk0rs girlfriend, I'm actually johns sister, so katelyn is my future sister in law. Everything I'm reading on here is making a lot of sense... Especially the one about someone sending the picture, not katelyn doing it. The picture that was sent to my brother was a picture of a picture, not one she took that night. When john told me that, I automatically asked 'do you think it could have been someone else sending it?' Did you see a lot of art in the background? Everything was plastered. I'm asking because I'm wondering if the phone was broken at her house or at another location. And you saying that there was a crowded place near by... The sacred heart festival was going on and it is walking distance from her house. When you say water and farmland, I autmotically think of miami whitewater which is in harrison and not too far from fairfield. At miami white water, there's so much farmland and so much water. Thank you so much for helping everyone, I just want my girl home. Ill post for anything else that comes to mind.

Keeping my focus on Katelyn, I'm looking into the person and her life before now. She did not see this coming. Things were going very well for her, obviously. She had no reason to believe otherwise.

Very recently, prior to her missing, something bad happened. An argument she kept putting on the back burner. I'm trying to avoid looking at what other people have posted, to avoid tainting what I'm getting. But I feel like she knew something was about to end, or that an argument was coming that she couldn't avoid. I think with everything going on in her life, it's easy to see why she didn't want to deal with something negative.

Financially she was very set. Job, future, family. Pretty much everything was taken care of in that regard. At the same time, I think that someone owed her money.

The person connected with her had a lot of things on their plate. Too many things going on at once and there was a lot of stress. It's possible they did not think about consequences when they were acting out.

Here are the things that are nagging at me. Why did the boyfriend leave at 11:30 on a Saturday night? She obviously wasn't tired if she texted him an hour later and he wasn't tired if he was awake to get it. It seems to me if they have been together 6 yrs, engaged for 1 that they would spend Saturday night together. But maybe that's just me. The other thing is on the 911 call he says "I'm sorry". For what? Who apolgizes on a 911 call? How did he know the only thing missing was her cell phone? Did he look through her jewelry box? What did they do that night? Where did they go? I also thought Miami Whitewater area, or West Chester also. There farm areas around there.

Well, I guess the picture was of a picture. Not Katelyn herself. So it's possible that the picture was taken by someone else. There is no evidence that Katelyn herself took it. As far as the Whitewater thing I was just trying to think of ANYTHING that would come close to what Reba was talking about. It's so surreal to have this kind of thing happen so close to home...Especially to have someone just up and vanish with no leads of any kind. But the other thing was, she was going to bed when he left. So he went to a friends house. I personally would've stayed the night myself but, not everyone has the same ideals in a relationship I guess.

Nuk0rs girlfriend, I know it is hard for you to read about us questioning your brother's validity. It would be for me as well, but just like the Police we need to rule him out. At the same time we are trying to locate your future sister inlaw. Please try not to take what is said here personally, we have to go though our process regardless of who else is reading or posting here. That's just how it works.

I am seeing a chasm or barrier in a relationship. Not between Carter and Katelyn necessarily but it did create stress in their relationship. This "chasm" that created the stress was between Carter and Katelyn's family or someone who is "like" family. There's a connection here. Was it Carter and Katelyn's father?

If you go to the street view of Katelyn's townhouse, go to the view from River Road. You will see the Marathon station and there is a water tower in view there. The Great Miami River is behind the tree line there.

There are 2 areas that catch my eye that are pretty close to where Katelyn lived. I hope no one has already posted this, hate to repeat but on my BlackBerry so navigation not so easy. One is off River Rd called Waterworks Park. The streets that intersect there are Groh Ln and Ponderosa. It looks like it has a road through it that takes you to the river.
The other is where River Rd turns south, there is a Dravo Park then a Marsh Lake. It seems like Dravo used to be a gravel place so I the Marsh lake is probably their old gravel pit. Those places can be pretty deep. I hope they get checked out.

This time I want to focus on John. I wanted to give it a few hours before I read him.

Of course the obvious is that he is under a lot of stress right now. His world has been shaken and he's having a hard time focusing on the present. He does need to slow down a lot right now. He's in such a rush to keep control of the situation that he seems very zealous to everyone around him.

I feel like a struggle for control has been a huge part of his life for a very long time. I don't know if he had a hard time buckling down and getting things done in the past, but there are a lot of plans and a lot of projects that he just was never able to finish.

Over all I get the feeling of a person who has a very unrealistic assessment of his abilities. That is not to say that I believe he is one way or the other responsible for what has happened here. This is just a general focus on the person.

A lot of self doubt and inner emotions are keeping him awake at night. Based purely in this energy, I have a hard time believing he had anything directly to do with this. Someone very close to him provides a kind of stability and I don't know if this person is Katelyn or not, but I'm getting that this relationship was a very good thing to have happened to him.

Ironically, this whole situation may be the only thing he's been able to focus on in a long time. I get the feeling of someone who could not lie very well if he tried, because that would mean keeping all of his ducks in order, which the past has shown he has a hard time doing.

I just got Water Fowl" I felt like it was a street or a place. I found a Water Fowl as a street over by By-Pass 4 and Tylersville Rd. It doesn't look like there's water nearby but I can remember when that whole area was farm land. They probably had wells or cisterns back then. I started to wonder also who John might know who would hate him so much that the last thing they would do before turning off the phone is to text him a picture of his girlfriend?

I also got Monroe. I don't know if it's the city, Monroe Ohio, or a last name. May ring a bell with someone closer to the investigation.

There is a water works plant at the corner of River rd. and nilles. right by her house....I actually lived right next door to her house a few years ago.

Harrison and ross both have many country like roads. and the miami river runs right betweeen. i know a few groups are out tonight because of the information on this thread. i truly hope a trace turns up soon. i do not believe the boyfriend has anything directly to do with her disappearance. as for the strange wording of the 911 call when you realize the woman you love is missing imagine trying not to be on nerves edge, it seems that his mind was racing and he simply starting saying anything he could to make since of the situation, which he realized, and therefor gave the quick i'm sorry so that the dispatcher could speak. i truely hope that katelyn is found. even more i hope she is found safe.
