Deondre Augustus "Gus" Hawkins - 8/24/2011 - Lexington Park, Maryland- Unsolved Homicide

Starting thread on behalf of member Phyllis Jean Clark, who has asked for assistance finding the party/parties responsible for the death of her son Deondre.

On August 24, 2011 at 11:38 P.M. police units responded to the area of Sell Drive, Lexington Park in St. Clement's Crossing, Maryland for the report of a motor vehicle striking a tree. Upon police arrival it was determined the operator of the vehicle, Deandre Agustus Hawkins, age 20, of Lexington Park had a gunshot wound in his upper torso. Hawkins was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing an investigation into this incident.

Is St Marys the hospital that your son was taken to? Is it the only hospital for Lexington Park?
Is Leonardtown the only police station for Lexington?
Is Sell drive where his car was found and does he live in this area?

yes, st marys hospital is the only hospital in lexington park. leonardtown is the only police station for lexington park. sell drive is where he was shot in his car and the car rolled down the hill into a tree as he was dying from being shot. he lived in lexington park with me. thanks...phyllis

Thank you Robert for you help and concern. My son did live with me and he left the house at about 10 pm to go to mcdonalds. We live about 10 miles from where he was killed. I dont have any idea why he was over where he was at when he was killed. Thank you again.

Do you know if he was near Leonardtown that night, before going to Sell Dr? You said he was about 10 miles away and you don't know why he was over where he was.
I see by the map that Sell Dr is in Lexington Park.You can pm if you would rather not post publicly.

Brief: I will note that off the forum thread, I did pick up very strong feelings on an individual which Phyllis confirmed was with her Son and stabbed him, etc. I also feel the other person that was standing next to this person was involved in some way, but apparently not a major player.

The information that I have, are stories and bits pieces. I do not know who killed my son Gus, Deondre Hawkins. I keep on the detectives, they wont tell me anything. The detective made a comment to me "You can not put a price on someone's family safety". He said that after I went to him to offer more money for the reward through crime solvers for someone to come forward. Some rumors are that a female set him up to be robbed or killed. No one is telling anything except who they may have heard killed my son. No reason why, why he was there, where did the men go after leaving the scene that quickly off the streets. I want to thank you again for taking interest.

Thank you PAngel777, I do hope someone comes forwrd. I do know people have called crime solvers but they are not giving information that is helpful enough to make an arrest. The poolice say unless someone with direct contact to the group of people who did this to him, everything is second and third party. The detective also said this is going to take time even a year or so. I want to thank you so much for your interest and caring to give your time.

I dont know any other way to post..learning this day by day. I think he was suppose to go to leonerdtown, the last outgoing phone call he made was to a friend that lived in leonardtown, and I was told he said he was still coming to see them. The reason I say I dont know why he was where he was is because he let me know a week before he was killed where one of the men that bullied him had moved to and was dating a girl that lived in that trailer park. He said "Dee lives acrtoss from the playground with his girlfriend". is why everyone says someone close to my son set him up to be robed or killed, someone he trusted with all his heart and soul, he never went to a fight, never..tried his best not to fight since he was out numbered, we had no family down there, and he knew that his friends were related to some of these guys and already taking side to be his friend..one of his friends even told him that the boys were after him, trying to bribe them with money or drugs to set him up. This is what he shared with me. Meanwhile after these events started in May I had been going to Waldorf, looking for a place to move and told him that night I had finally found something and we would be moving the next Tuesday. It makes me cry to hear those words...but I already know that is how he feels. I also know that the from our life together. He has always shielded me from anything going on with him. But at the same time it did not stop me from trying to know whatever it was that was on his mind and 75% or more actually he would share his hard times with me. He shared info on these boys because I was suppose to know. I know too much of what was going on between them and him for me not to get justice for his horrible death. Thank you for reassuring me of the love and protection he wanted for me and of course still would. But he cant shield me right now, I will pain until I have justice, I know I will not be able to go on. I dont want to. I would rather die with him. My only hope of a normal life would be to get to the bottom of this somehow. I will be able to grieve and appreciate my memories that make me laugh and cry. I appreciate you for helping me too. I'm so sorry for what you are going through Phyllis. I have not read much on your son here but I did a brief session tonight on him. I got a very clear Mike did this. And I asked if he was set up and I got yes E.Z. or E.C.(or something similar sounding?) did. I will try to get more later.

22:00 - Deondre left home, saying he was going to McDonald's
22:19 - Seen by girl friend getting gasoline at Wawa Food Market
22:54 - Deondre last call to friend that lives in Leonardtown
23:38 - Deondre found in car, shot from the passenger side

My best guess is that Deondre went to see his friend that lives in Leonardtown after getting gasoline at the Wawa Food Market. I believe Deondre was shot seconds before 22:54 making his last call to the friend in Leonardtown. I feel he told his friend to call 911 Emergency & stay on the phone with him until help arrives.

* Who made the 911 Emergency Call? Is there a transcript of the call?
* Does Law Enforcement (LE) have the video footage from the Wawa Food Market?

Lynda, Deondre had a friend in Leonardtown, I hate calling them friends, but his name is Mike. The original story was that a girl named Sammie set gus up to be robbed but they killed him and she did not know they were going to kill him. My son was hanging out with a girl name DeeDee everyday Mon - Wed, they were going back and forth to the community college signing up for classes and hanging out during the day. She has a history of setting guys up to be robbed. I also know that a "friend" of his that goes by the name Peedi, but his name is Marcel "Cel", told my son that the guys that bullied him were trying to pay people to set Deondre up. I asked him what he meant and I guess we both thought to get him some where and beat him up bad, not kill him. But that is why I dont know why he would of been on Sell Dr. He knew that the main guy that hated him was dating the girl that lived in that trailer....

Robert, The 911 call was made by a family member, Deondre has a sister by another lady and his sister has an aunt that lives on that same street. She just happen to walk outside to smoke a cigarette when my sons car went past on the grass and down the hill and hit the tree. She swears that she seen Gus turn the inside light on, and at that time she ran in the house to get her cell phone but when she came out the light was off so she ran down to his car and thats when she found him, body laying across arm rests and head in passenger floor board. When she tried to pull him to her , she saw blood and called 911. I want to say I get a vibe from the scene that he was alert for several minutes, maybe did not realize he had been shot? I have been wanting to talk to the guy gus called in Leonardtown but I did not get a chance to. His name is Wendel and he is Marcel brother. He got into a fight 2 days after Deondre was murdered for fighting a guy that was friends with the guys who bullied my son. The only things is Wendel was approached by this young man and defended hisself with a knife, cut the other guy and after sentencing they gave him 15 years...that is a long time for just a cut, with a few stitches, I feel like he got that much time because the police know he knows something about Deondres murder, since he was the last outgoing call from my son, but wont tell?????

I want to say thank you for your support. And we did live in Waldorf, for 11 years, where we until Nov 07, that is when we moved to Lexington Park. After Deondre was assaulted in May and started getting bullied by these men, I started looking for a place in Waldorf. We lived in Holly Station for 11 years. I have left a message for a young girl asking her if my son made it to leonardtown that night. I know she talked to him on the phone on that last out going call he made to a friend of his named Wendell in Leonardtown. If I remember correctly she previously told me "he was on his way" and they were waiting on him...just gonna make sure first...the direction of his travel through the trailer park was coming off another street that connects to Sell Dr. His aunt lives on the corner and it would of been easier for him to just enter Sell Dr. because her trailer is "right there" It seems he was shot in the trailer park...one older man reported hearing 3 or 4 shots..., unfortunately people from that trailer park have said that since they live beside a gun range, they have learned to block out gun fire...
I wan to say that I have been on top of things since the day he was killed. I know I have probably put myself in danger, so I have left the area and have told no one where I am at..no one...So, I can continue to make contact with people who are still actively seeking questions, the ones who do not care where I am, they just want to know I am safe...but they continue their search for answers. I am pretty sure her trailer is 4 trailers down from where he was killed on a corner. Sell dr. is separated by another through street so it technically has a few corners. He passed her trailer, went across the through street in the grass knocking down a stop sign on that corner, sign was on right, and continued down the hill, which starts at the top of the through street, traveling in a field across from the other trailers "at the bottom of Sell DR. being stopped by a tree. I am trying to get a name of the through street he crossed for you now. Thank you again.

#76..It makes me cry, its perfect..he was supposed shot and killed back down by Sydney and Sell there are trailer there now, 3 more i think, I do not know what way he would of went to sell either from the front side street, Sydney or Chapman.

Assuming he went to Leonardtown from home, going through California and then on to St Andrews Church Road. When I googled the route back to Sell dr. it took me back to Lexington park via another road south of Leonardtown. Sorry I didn't write the name of the road down. It is on the map. This would mean he would come in from the opposite direction. That is saying he came back on a different hwy. Why would google show two different routes to get to the same street. Why wouldn't you go back the same way you came? Directions are not one of the things I do very well. This would make the angle at which he came into the park from Panther. Sorry if I am sounding confused but I need to clarify it in my mind.What direction was the front of his car facing?

I'm guessing Deondre was probably trying to get help from his aunt Crystal.

Robert, the neighborhood that Wendell lives in is called Leonards Free Hold Apartments, located at 41485 Connelly Street, Leonardtown, Md 20650, Do not know his exact address, but it is very small townhome community. Marion is aunts husband that gave information relating to cars leaving out behind my sons and brief descriptions of drivers. Chrystal is his step daughter, my sons cousin. Not sure where the names Charles came from, dont remember saying that name,will have to go back and read what i might have written. There is also another way into the trailer court, turn onto Shagrila from rt235, then greatmills rd. I wan to verify the spot his car struck the tree and stopped..it is the patch of trees directly across from 53 sell dr. I will get Marcells address in a min. Hope that helped a little bit. PAngel777, I love Deondre, I carried his picture with me all day by my heart. The time of your posts relating to Deondre being shot in his car, I was at the scene of the accident putting his valentines mementos from his grave to the memorial site which is at the tree on sell dr., the car struck and stopped the car. A storm came up quickly, loud thunder, loud, pouring rain for 20-30 mins. I miss him so much. Thank you so much for sharing his words with me.

PAngel777, He loved dogs, he had a puppy pit before, two actually, one was named peteanne and the other star. When reading your post involving steel or steal, I felt a chill reading this, i could hear the running footsteps too. I have heard that he was set up to be robbed and was killed. I will remember this. Wildcat is the name of a football team he played on for 2 years in waldorf, md, but i am thinking that wildcat is also the name of one of the high schools in lexington park area. I will check. My friends and I were talking about doing a brief search of the area for some information, maybe the weapon. We would be in a group, daylight to be safe. I am working on contacting a lady Shelle Hale said could possibly help me with "The freedom of Information act" to possible get more accurate information and I am hoping we can give each other some support. Well, I don't know...but I'm not sure this was a set up.

I know that sounds strange...and not saying it's accurate, but something about what happened may not be a set up per say...maybe in the sense it wasn't a planned murder...

I'm NOT 100% SURE ON THIS...but I am getting something about not being a set up.

I don't know...will have to let the information sit and see if I get more or it will make sense later if I have more visions and can piece it together.
