Golden described the scene on the steep hillside as "pretty dangerous" for rescue crews.
Reinhardt said police believe the car went off the winding mountain highway sometime around 4 a.m. Saturday morning. He said the driver's cause of death - and the cause of the accident - was to be determined pending autopsy results.
Golden said DPS Ranger aircrews patrol remote roads "often," with accidents like this one in mind.
"There is truly no sign of a disturbance (at the roadside) that anybody would have seen, no way to be able to see that the car was down there," Golden said, "except by helicopter."
