FORT WORTH -- Police are investigating the death of a man found inside a patio storage closet at an east Fort Worth apartment complex Wednesday night.
Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman, said a woman told police that she and another relative had gone to the complex in the 6000 block of Bridge Street after being unable to contact her 23-year-old brother the past couple of days.
Criado said the relative had jumped over the patio fence to try to enter the brother’s apartment through a sliding glass door when he smelled a strong odor on the patio and noticed a fluid leaking from under the patio storage closet door.
“When he unlocked and opened the door, he observed a decomposing body inside,” Criado said.
Criado said the man, who has not yet been positively identified, appears to have been dead at least three days. He said investigators are awaiting a ruling on the man’s death from the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office but are treating the case as a homicide.
