WINDERMERE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Detectives with the Orange County Sheriff's Office are investigating the discovery of a body in a Windermere subdivision. Homicide detectives have identified the body as that of Werner Poitevien. Poitevien was visiting a friend when he turned up missing on Monday.
Rescue crews found Poitevien's body in a retention pond in the Merrick Landing subdivision, behind several houses in the 6500 block of Silver Queen Way shortly before 11.a.m. Monday.
Investigators have not determined how long Poitevien's body had been in the water, but the subject's brother told investigators that he last had contact with him around 7 a.m. on Labor Day. The cause of death is still unknown at this time, but investigators do not suspect foul play.
In a sworn affidavit, one of Poitevien's friends indicated he was a known diabetic. The Medical Examiner's office has removed the body and an autopsy will be conducted to determine what led to his death.
