Human Remains Found Suncadia, WA

Posted on May 19, 2012.
Updated 4:16 p.m.: During a press conference this afternoon, Kittitas County Undersheriff Clay Myers said a body found in Suncadia resort is an adult woman, based on the clothing found. Two archaeologists from Central Washington University are assisting with the recovery. The area where the remains were found was disturbed in 2002 for preliminary design work, and was an untouched wooded area before that. Updated 12:41 p.m.: CLE ELUM—Skeletal remains were found Monday in the Suncadia resort area in the Upper County, according to Kittitas County Undersheriff Clay Myers. Myers said a construction worker on a backhoe working on a water system near a golf course unearthed the remains. Kittitas County Sheriff’s investigators secured the scene and determined that the remains appear to be from one person, Myers said. “Preliminary examinations indicate a female,” Myers said. “We’re unable to determine at this time how long the victim has been there.” The remains were buried in a 18 to 24-inch grave, Myers said. Sheriff’s detectives are working with the county coroner’s office and will also be looking into missing person cases.
