A couple is being hunted after the dismembered body of a man was found cut up into five parts and stuffed into a backpack in a Los Angeles hotel.
A housekeeper made the grim find when she went to clean the room at the Continental Hotel.
Additional body parts were found wrapped in blankets underneath the bed.
Police believe that 49-year-old Herbert White was tortured and killed in a robbery that went wrong after meeting Edward Garcia, 36, and his 25-year-old wife, Melissa in Hollywood.
‘Basically his limbs were removed,’ said a Los Angeles detective.
'The crime-scene investigation revealed signs that the suspects were attempting to clean up the scene and attempting to remove the body from the location,’ added Detective Kelle Baitx.
Investigators used witness statements and evidence left behind after the November 29 killing to identify the couple, thought to still be in Los Angeles or on their way to their home state of Pennsylvania.
A knife was also found in the small hotel room.
A warrant has been issued for the couple’s arrest, charging them with murder that involved the infliction of torture.
