The body of a man who disappeared after falling from a body board near the surf at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse was found at a beach access site nearby about 4:45 p.m.
The 38-year-old man never resurfaced and was reported missing about 12:15 p.m., a news release from the Coast Guard said. A helicopter rescue crew from the Elizabeth City spotted his body. The Currituck Fire Department recovered him.
Lt. Jason Banks with the Currituck County Sheriff's Office, said the man's identity was being withheld pending notification of the family.
There were no rip currents in the area and the ocean was relatively calm today, Banks said. His brothers were nearby but could not find him after he went under.
