AP) CHICAGO - Police are searching for the newlywed husband of a woman whose body was found stabbed and clothed in the silver sequin cocktail dress she wore at her wedding reception. Police in the Chicago suburb of Burbank said Tuesday they are searching for 30-year-old Arnoldo Jimenez on a first-degree murder warrant. Jimenez and 26-year-old Estrella Carrera were married Friday at Chicago's city hall. They had dinner with friends and a restaurant, then took a limo to a nightclub. They were last seen around 4 a.m. Saturday. Her body was found Sunday afternoon in the bathtub of her apartment in Burbank. Police said there were no signs of forced entry at her condo. An autopsy Monday found Carrera died of multiple stab wounds. The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide. Carrera left behind two children, ages 8 and 2. CBS News affiliate WBBM in Chicago reports Carrera was supposed to pick up her children from relatives on Saturday, but she never did, and relatives asked police for a well-being check, leading to the discovery of her dead body Sunday afternoon.

Search crews have found the body of a hiker, missing since Easter, in the bottom of a 60-foot-deep hole called the Hidden Cave in the wilderness outside San Diego California. The grim discovery of Guillermo Pino Jr, 25, ends a month of frantic searching for the fit student at University of California-San Diego. Mr Pino was hiking with his family through the rugged mud caves of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park on April 8 when he became separated from them. At the time, he had didn't have shoes, water, food, a flashlight or a cell phone, KGTV in San Diego reported. Authorities found a Mr Pino Saturday night when they lowered a camera 50 to 60 feet into a cavern and discovered human remains with the clothes Mr Pino was wearing when he disappeared. Climbers were expected to descend into the hole Sunday to bring up Mr Pino's body. On Saturday, his family posted on Facebook: 'We found Junior at 5pm yesterday, in the Hidden Cave. SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – A body believed to be that of a missing hiker was found in Anza-Borrego Springs Saturday. Family members tell News 8 they lowered a camera into a crevice in the mud caves, in the area where Guillermo Pino, Junior, disappeared Easter Sunday. When they raised the camera back up and reviewed the footage, they could see a body, with clothing that matched what Pino was wearing the day he disappeared. They say, though the body was decomposed, they could still distinguish some facial features. The discover was made around 5 p.m. Pino was last seen sitting barefoot atop an Anza Borrego State Park mud cave during a family outing on Easter Sunday around 12 p.m.

Wednesday, 02 May 2012 14:40 - On Saturday at 2:30, Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green, responded to the Green River in the Woodbury Community of Butler County. A fisherman contacted Post 3 and advised that he had located a body in the river. The body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville, Kentucky for autopsy and identification. On Tuesday, May 2, 2012, Kentucky State Police was notified by the medical examiner that the body was of Brandon Tyler Crain (19) of Munfordville, Kentucky. Mr. Crain was reported missing on January 26, 2012 to the Hart County Sheriff's Office in Munfordville, Kentucky. No foul play is suspected. The investigation is still ongoing and is being led by Detective Erik Salman.

The body of a man pulled from the Green River on Saturday in Woodbury in Butler County could be that of missing Hart County teen Brandon Crain. “It’s possible it is,” Hart County Sheriff Boston Hensley said. “There is nothing that has been confirmed at this time.” Crain’s dental records, along with the body, have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Louisville, Hensley said. Hensley’s office has been investigating Crain’s disappearance since January. The Kentucky State Police are investigating the body found in the river. A fisherman discovered the body about 2:20 p.m. Saturday, KSP spokesman Trooper Jonathan Biven said. “I’m not going to speculate who it is at this time until an identification is made by the state medical examiner's office,” Biven said. “Once the identification is determined, that will be the first thing we release after the family is notified.”

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Angelic voices filled a Scottsdale church, in hopes that a missing angel from Tucson would be brought home safe - and soon. The Arizona Opera Chorus held a benefit concert called "Voices of Hope", for Isabel Celis, a smiling 6 year old in pictures, who has been missing for nine days."I don't think you can be even in the community but around the environment in Tucson and not just feel the pain of this family," said Kathleen Ganley, the girl's great aunt. Dozens of people attended the concert, where door attendees handed out missing persons fliers and purple ribbons. Members of the chorus, of which Isabel's dad Sergio has been a member for the past 20 years, performed songs like "The Promise of the Living" and "This Little Light of Mine." While benefits and fundraisers are being held for the family, Tucson police continue to work leads - 350 since the girl disappeared.

An arrest has been made in connection with the killing of Phylicia Barnes, the 16-year-old from North Carolina who vanished while visiting family in Northwest Baltimore in 2010 and was found dead months later in the Susquehanna River. Word broke late Wednesday from Barnes' relatives, and was confirmed by authorities. The attorney for Michael Johnson, the former boyfriend of Phylicia's older sister, confirmed that his client had been taken into custody at about 11:30 p.m. on unknown charges. Johnson had been the last person to see her alive. Baltimore Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed that Johnson was arrested in connection with the Barnes' killing, but could not elaborate on the charges filed. An announcement was expected Thursday morning. Russell Neverdon, Johnson's attorney, said his client maintains his innocence. He said members of the Warrant Apprehension Task Force came to Johnson's house, arrested him, and took the keys to the house. He said he had previously instructed his client not to answer any questions in the event of his arrest. Barnes' case attracted national media attention. The honors student disappeared without a trace, and detectives worked round-the-clock in an effort to find her. Her body was later found floating in the Susquehanna River nearly a year ago to the day. The case sparked a bill in the Maryland legislature called "Phylicia's Law," which supporters say will improve coordination between law enforcement and community groups in missing children cases. Reached by phone, Phylicia's father, Russell Barnes, said the family was "rejoicing" over news of the arrest. He said the family had long suspected Johnson. He said he believes the new Phylicia's Law helped thrust the case back into the spotlight. "We feel this was there all along," Barnes said. LOGANSPORT — There is no doubt in David Armstrong’s mind that he will soon find his missing daughter. But to do that, he and the rest of Kelly Armstrong’s family are looking for help from the community. The former Logansport High School student was reported missing last September at the age of 27, and police have charged her boyfriend in her death. But her body has not been recovered, despite a six-day search conducted by police of a Wabash County landfill in January. Armstrong’s family hopes to use money raised at a chili benefit dinner Saturday to help pay for a professional search team, David Armstrong said. “They searched for six days, and that’s it,” he said. “That’s why the family has to do this. The Kokomo police have told us lies and something different each time.” The father’s frustration stems from more than the search efforts, though. David Armstrong is also upset by various parts of the investigation, including the exact day police say they believe Armstrong was killed, and the charging of her boyfriend, Travis Funke, with voluntary manslaughter rather than murder. Attempts to reach Kokomo Police Chief Robert Baker and a captain who handled the case were not successful Thursday. Police have said Funke confessed in January to killing Armstrong during a fight. According to the police investigation, Funke said he believed Armstrong knocked him out with a hammer. According to that same account, Funke said he woke up to find his girlfriend dead on the floor, and that he remembered hitting her in the head with the same hammer, but thought he dreamt it.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police, with the assistance of local law enforcement, located Steven Tofte (3/16/59) and Carrie Lane this evening near Cusick, Washington. Tofte was armed with a shotgun when he was taken into custody and police are in the process of reuniting Lane with her family. Tofte will be booked into Spokane County Jail for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and other possible charges. This evening around 6:30pm, US Marshals, Pend Orielle County Sheriff's Deputies, Stevens County Deputies and Spokane Police arrested wanted felon, Steven Tofte. Officers located Tofte and endangered teen, Carrie Lane, in a parking lot in the Colville National Forest, near Usk, Washington. Both were standing outside, near the suspect vehicle. Tofte was armed with a shotgun at the time of his arrest but was placed in custody without incident. Carrie Lane is now safe and detectives are working to reunite her with her family.

The indictment charges Israel Keyes, 34, with kidnapping and killing Koenig, receiving ransom money and using a stolen debit card to pilfer a bank account. The charges -- punishable by life in prison or death if he's found guilty in federal court -- come 11 weeks to the day since Koenig was abducted from the Midtown coffee hut where she worked. Keyes forced Koenig out of the coffee stand about 8 p.m. on Feb. 1 and walked her to his pickup parked across Tudor Road at a Home Depot, the indictment says. He stole a debit card from a vehicle Koenig shared with someone else and sent text messages using her phone that were intended to conceal her abduction, the indictment says. Keyes forced Koenig to give him the card's personal access number and scratched the number onto the card, the indictment says. He killed her on Feb. 2, then flew to Houston, Texas, the indictment says. Almost six months after James Schwartz picked up his backpack and disappeared into the Arizona dessert, his remains were found by a fellow Sedona hiker. Missing person Jim Schwartz, 66, disappeared on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. On Friday, October 21 the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) Forest Patrol Unit coordinated a search. Sheriff deputies directed deployment of four search dogs and helicopter flyovers. No clues were unearthed as searchers checked areas around his Village of Oak Creek home. At that time, trails commonly used by Schwartz were searched. Guardian Air provided the helicopter service. According to local reports, a hiker decided to go out and look for missing person Schwartz after reading a recent news article. On Saturday, the hiker found Schwartz’s remains in a remote side canyon off Woods Canyon just southeast of Village of Oak Creek and Sedona. The family posted on Facebook on Easter Sunday: "Hallelujah. Our prayers have been answered! In response to the powerful prayers for Jim on Good Friday, his remains were found midday on Saturday. SEDONA - Authorities in northern Arizona believe they've found the body of a 66-year-old man who went missing back in October. Saturday, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office was told a body had been located in Woods Canyon, southeast of Sedona.The body was more than 8 miles outside the village of Oak Creek, adjacent to a creek bed. The person who found the body was a volunteer who had been searching on behalf of the missing man's family. He believed he had found the body of James Schwartz. The victim's identity has yet to be confirmed through dental records, but clothing and a backpack match the descriptions of James Schwartz. A wedding ring was also found on the body, which belonged to Schwartz, his wife Karen confirmed. There were no obvious signs of foul play at the scene. An autopsy and manner of death report is pending.

Wyatt Nordrum had been missing since March 27 after allegedly being kidnapped by his father, who is embroiled in a custody battle with Wyatt's mother, Candice Nordrum of Fort Frances, Ont. James Leon Nordrum Jr. is in intensive care and stable condition following surgery at St. Luke's hospital in Duluth. He sustained self-inflicted injuries to his neck, according to the sheriff’s report. Terri Port Wright, an attorney who is representing James Nordrum Jr., said Wyatt has been reunited with his mother. She said the boy was not injured. "He was safe the whole time," Port Wright said. Port Wright said she did not know how law enforcement agents were able to locate the Nordrums. She said it was her understanding that Nordrum Jr. injured himself when he learned that he was about to be caught. She said she does not know how he hurt himself, but said it was not with a firearm. The father was taken into custody, and the boy was recovered at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday They were found in a remote cabin on Lost Lake near Anderson Road in Stoney Brook Township. "We just got confirmation, 20 minutes ago, that it is definitely her," Anchorage police spokesman Dave Parker said. Koenig, 18, was abducted from an Anchorage coffee stand Feb. 1. Local carpenter Israel Keyes, 34, is suspected of killing her. He is being held in jail in Anchorage on unrelated fraud charges, but authorities told the Anchorage Daily News that he was directly tied to the case.Asked about further charges over Koenig's death, Parker said, "It takes a while for charges, but he is being held. We know where he is." He said local authorities were working with the FBI on the case. Anchorage police chief Mark Mew said, "Investigators believe that Samantha died within hours of abduction, and we are continuing to investigate these facts." Koenig's body was found Monday underneath ice in Matanuska Lake, near Gateway, 37 miles northeast of Anchorage. Officers used chain saws to cut away a four-foot hole in the ice for divers to explore the water below. The last time anyone saw or spoke to Sonsaray Warford and Charles Walker was June 2010. That's when the boyfriend and girlfriend disappeared without a trace from their Richmond home, leaving behind lots of questions. And the couple's family and friends never stopped searching for answers. They held candlelight vigils, wore ribbons, made t-shirts, buttons, posters with the message "We'lll never give up." But now, those loved ones have given up looking for the couple after their remains were found in Madison County Monday. "Now, at least, we don't have to assume, so we have peace in that. Just sad, because the reality of acceptance now as we have to accept that she is not here anymore," says Warford's aunt Brenda Douglas. "I've had my ups and downs today. I know its going to be more and more because it's over in a sense but it's just starting," explains Warford's father Gregory Todd. 26-year-old Daniel Keene and 27-year-old Matthew Denholm are charged with the couple's kidnapping and murder. Keene is a junior physics major at Eastern Kentucky University while Denholm is already in jail, accused of a double shooting last fall that left a Berea College student dead. Investigators won't say where the bodies were found and they won't officially confirm their identities until the autopsies are completed. Family members say they don't know how the victims knew the men accused of killing them. Keene confessed to kidnapping Warford and Walker from their Keystone Drive apartment in June 2010 and then murdering them with an accomplice somewhere in Madison County, according to the Richmond Register. Investigators say more arrests are likely. Warford's family wants justice."I want the law to just deal with them as they see fit in this situation. And, we don't want to see anything happen that will cause anybody who is guilty to get away. We want them to pay," comments Douglas. And the vicitms' families are turning to each other and their faith in these trying times. "Just as long as we continue to believe and have faith in our God, we can get through anything," says Todd.

HARDY, Ark. (AP) - The family of a 4-year-old boy who had been missing since he traveled with his aunt to a cleanup day at an Arkansas Boy Scout camp says search crews have found his body. Caleb Linn went missing Saturday near the South Fork of the Spring River in the Ozark foothills of northern Arkansas. Searchers in boats and on horseback, foot and four-wheelers scoured the valley for days before his uncle Chris Bruner announced Wednesday that the body had been found. The South Fork was swollen after recent storms and authorities had feared the boy had somehow slipped into the water near the Kia Kima Scout Reservation. Searchers used cadaver dogs in their search and also set up a net across the Spring River in an effort to find the boy.

Investigators believe they have found the body of a Montana teacher who went missing while out for a jog the morning of Jan. 7. "While a positive identification has not been made at this time, it is believed the remains are those of Sherry Arnold," said a statement by David Johnson, special agent in charge of the FBI's Salt Lake City Division and Frank DiFonzo, the police chief in Arnold's hometown of Sidney, Mont. On Tuesday, agents from an FBI evidence response team and local police began to recover the remains of a female found near Williston, N.D., the statement said. Williston is about 45 miles from Sidney. The remains are being sent to a lab to confirm the identity and police said they would not release any further details. "We want to thank God for all the amazing people and their prayers, help and continued support in bringing Sherry home to her family," Arnold's aunt, Janet Erhardt, told ABC News today. Two Colorado men are in custody in Arnold's disappearance, charged with aggravated kidnapping. The location of the body across the state line from where the kidnapping occurred means there could be federal charges against the two suspects in the case, Michael Keith Spell, 22, and Lester Van Waters Jr., 47, both of Parachute, Colo.

Detroit— Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced murder charges for D'Andre Louis Lane, the father of missing 2-year-old Bianca Jones, Wednesday in the Detroit toddler's disappearance case. Worthy announced her decision to charge Lane Wednesday with first-degree felony murder and first-degree child abuse several months after Bianca was last seen in December even though her body was never recovered. "The human body is sometimes the best piece of evidence we have," said Worthy, who noted even though investigators haven't found Bianca, she feels the case against Lane is a strong one. Worthy also said Bianca was subjected to child abuse on the day Bianca went missing. Lane will be arraigned in 36th District Court at 1 p.m. Thursday. He has been in Oakland County's jail since Monday, according to jail officials. Lane is being held on a violation of a personal protection order unrelated to his daughter's disappearance. He'll be transferred to Detroit custody later Wednesday, Worthy said.Bianca was reported missing around 10 a.m. Dec. 2, when Lane told police that carjackers forced him out of his 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis at gunpoint at Brush and Carter streets, just north of East Grand Boulevard, before driving off with his daughter in the backseat. The car was recovered a few minutes after police responded to the call, but Bianca was gone. Investigators searching for Bianca had requested a criminal warrant in December. Detroit police asked prosecutors to charge someone in connection with the disappearance, but details of the request weren't made public then. A police source told The Detroit News earlier that cadaver dogs searched Lane's home and evidence was discovered. Police have said they don't trust Lane's story, but the father has said he had nothing to do with her disappearance. LAS VEGAS -- A relative says he believes a body found in Rock Canyon National Conservation Area outside Las Vegas is a 46-year-old hiker missing since mid-January. Darrell Kirk of Seattle says the keys to his brother Ronald Kirk's vehicle were found with the body found Saturday in rugged terrain at the popular hiking area about 20 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy says a body was found, but it could take several days for identification to be confirmed. Darrell Kirk says foul play is not suspected. Ronald Kirk was originally from the Chicago area. He was reported missing Jan. 22 and his vehicle was found Jan. 23 in the Calico Basin area. He sent family members a text message Jan. 16 saying he was going hiking.

Missing teen Mariam Makhniashvili, whose remains were found in a golf course under a bridge last week, likely died after a "fall from a significant height," police said Friday. In a press conference that began at 1 p.m., police said forensic tests indicate the girl was likely alive at time of the fall. They said the findings don't indicate the girl was killed. The girl's remains were discovered 10 days ago at the Don Valley Golf Course in north Toronto. Makhniashvili disappeared Sept. 14, 2009, sparking an international investigation, several rumours of sightings and the largest missing person search in Toronto history. The remains' identity was confirmed by a source who spoke with CTV Toronto's Tamara Cherry, as well as a separate source who spoke with CTV Toronto. Lela Tabidze, Makhniashvili's mother, said police told her about the discovery March 1; a gesture police describe as a courtesy to the family. Tabidze says they warned her that she "might get some news," and encouraged her "not to get too upset, and wait for the results" of the tests. Investigators were also seen at Tabidze's home on Friday morning. The location of the course, in a ravine under Highway 401 near Yonge Street, is not far from the high-rise building where the Makhniashvili family lives. The remains were so decomposed police could not immediately identify their age or sex, requiring significant forensic testing to identify the body. However, CP24 sources said a piece of evidence found at the scene led police to believe the body was the teenage girl's since its discovery. Dental records and the scraps of clothing found with the body were to be analyzed, while police combed through missing person records from the past three years to look for a match. DENVER -- Human remains found in western Colorado are probably those of a Grand Junction woman whose disappearance baffled her family and investigators after she was last seen in June 2007, authorities said Wednesday. The Mesa County Sheriff's Department said the remains have been tentatively identified as Paige Birgfeld, a 34-year-old mother of three. Birgfeld's friends knew her as a devoted single mother, twice divorced, who sold kitchen products and did other jobs to support her children. Authorities said she also had an escort service, a discovery that surprised many who knew her. Her death is considered a homicide. In October 2007, investigators identified Lester Ralph Jones, then 56, as a suspect in the case. Sheriff's Sgt. Matt Lewis said Wednesday that Jones remains a suspect but investigators had not arrested him or contacted him since the remains were found. Objects found with the remains "could lead us in another direction," Lewis said. He said there were personal items but declined to identify them further.Phone numbers listed for Jones were disconnected. It wasn't clear whether he had retained an attorney. Birgfeld's burned-out car was found in July 2007, a few miles from her home. Police later found a gun about a half-mile from the car, and they have also recovered some of her belongings, although they haven't described them. Numerous searches had failed to turn up any sign of her body. A hiker found the remains Tuesday in neighboring Delta County.

After almost two months of authorities looking for him, it was a fisherman who found Bobby Hennecke. Hennecke's body was found Monday afternoon in the Diversion Channel at the Cape Girardeau and Scott County border, Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton confirmed Monday night. Hennecke, 59, of Cape Girardeau was reported missing Jan. 20 but was last seen Jan. 15. Hennecke disappeared after going to church and watching football with a friend Jan. 15, his sister-in-law Gail Hennecke said. Hennecke's friend took him home around 5:30 p.m. that day. When Gail Hennecke and her husband, William, went to Bobby Hennecke's Ellis Street apartment a few weeks after he was reported missing, they found that no one had been there in weeks, Gail Hennecke said. "There was no water in the sink or shower and there was old food in the refrigerator," she had said. "Nothing was disturbed. Police also searched parts of the Mississippi River after Hennecke's disappearance to see if he had fallen in but did not find any trace of the man. Representatives from the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department, the Cape Girardeau Police Department, the Scott County Sheriff's Department and the Scott City Police Department all responded to a report of a body found in the channel around 2:30 p.m. The body was removed from the channel around 3:20 p.m., and his family was notified around 4 p.m. "When the military has to go to someone's house to tell a family their soldier has died, that's how it is when you have a missing person," Gail Hennecke said. Clifton was able to identify Hennecke because his wallet was in his pocket, Gail Hennecke said.

Authorities believe they’ve found the body of Melanie Chapuis, who’s been missing since Dec. 8. According to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Frank Leonbruno: Deputies were called Thursday to a business at 445 Fairport Nursery Road in Painesville Township. Workers at the business discovered the body on land behind the building and immediately called police. Evidence suggests that the body is that of Chapuis, 46, who was last seen in that area on Dec. 7. Chapuis had left her vehicle and coat with a suicide note on Dec. 7 near the banks of the Grand River, not far from where the body was found, Leonbruno said. Investigators said there is no indication of foul play. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Detectives, and Lake County Coronor Lynn Smith, processed the scene, and sent the body to the Cuyahoga Coroner’s Office for examination.

State police have found the body of Rebecca Stahl, a sixth-grade math teacher who was reported missing this week in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County. The body was found shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday in a wooded area along Bell Memorial Church Road in Unity Township. Channel 4 Action News reporter Marcie Cipriani cited sources who said the body was wrapped in plastic. Police have not identified any suspects or made any arrests. Twenty-five-year-old Charles Steven Parker of Monroe disappeared in mid-January after attending church and then dropping off a business partner in Athens. His wallet, duffle bag and car were found in Athens earlier this week, and then his body was discovered in an Oglethorpe County well on Feb. 21. Now, an autopsy has determined that he was shot to death, WXIA TV in Atlanta reports. Officials identified Parker's body with a recognizable tattoo; they have not been able to determine an exact time of death, the station reports. A memorial service for Parker is planned in Lithonia on Saturday.

Officials will conduct an autopsy to determine when, and how, the 25-year-old assistant bank manager from Monroe was killed. He was last seen alive in Athens on January 15. His family said after church on that Sunday, he headed east to Madison County to look at land for a business venture. Someone saw him later that afternoon, but the Parker family never heard from him again. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is handling the case, is treating Parker’s death as a homicide, said Jim Fullington, special agent in charge of the Athens field office of the GBI. He wouldn’t offer any details about what was found on Parker’s body or whether the man had been shot or stabbed. “All I can say about the body is that it was partially decomposed,” said Fullington. Even in that state, “we could get enough details from the body to determine that it was that of Charles Parker.”

SAN DIEGO—Authorities in Mexico have arrested the estranged husband of a woman who was killed and left in a restroom at San Diego City College in 2010. San Diego Police announced that Armando Perez was arrested Sunday morning in Tijuana. Nineteen-year-old college student Diana Gonzalez was accosted and stabbed to death inside a men's restroom on Oct. 12, 2010. A month earlier, Gonzalez reported that Perez choked her unconscious, kidnapped her and held her for three days in motels as he raped her. He was arrested but released when prosecutors decided against filing charges. Perez, who was 38 at the time, was immediately identified as the suspect in the killing. The San Diego Union Tribune says Perez is expected to be transported to Mexico City, where he will be granted an extradition hearing.

More than a thousand people mourned the deaths of Charlie and Braden Powell at a public funeral Saturday, nearly a week after the young boys' father killed them and himself in a gas-fueled blaze. "We want to celebrate their innocence today," said the Rev. Dean Curry, lead pastor of Life Center Church in Tacoma. "We want to be grateful for the moments we had with these children." The boys' grandfather Chuck Cox thanked police, social workers, teachers and everyone who cared for Charlie, 7, and Braden, 5, as well as people who had prayed for the boys after they died. It "helps us to know that there are good people in the world — good people who fight against evil," Cox said. At the front of the church's sanctuary, the boys were in a single casket topped with a large flower arrangement that included daisies, roses and sunflowers. "We know that they're with their mother," Cox said, remembering his daughter, Susan Powell, who has been missing for two years and is presumed dead. Two teachers shared their memories and read letters from other instructors who had interacted with the boys.Charlie was remembered as a boy fascinated with science and insects, often trying to sneak worms or caterpillars into the classroom. He was about to get glasses and loved to write, dreaming up plans to market his books. "At an early age, Charlie displayed a keen intellect and compassionate heart," said Tammy Ougheon, Charlie's kindergarten teacher in Utah. "He was an amazing young man." His younger brother, Braden, preferred cars and trains, teachers remembered, and last Halloween got to dress up as a Transformer. Braden, teachers said, loved to be tickled. "Braden walked through the doors every day with a big smile on his face," said Kristie King, an instructor at a YMCA where Braden was enrolled in a pre-kindergarten program. King said Braden "had a heart of gold, always wanting to show affection. "Braden liked to hold his teacher's hand and not let go," she said. Three projection screens inside the church showed photos of the boys: pictures of them smiling with their mother, laughing with their grandparents and playing outside. "We are grateful for the opportunity that we've each had to have felt the joy that these two small children have brought into our lives in their short lives," family member Kirk Graves said in the funeral's closing prayer.

A husband, who was under investigation in the 2009 disappearance of his wife, today apparently killed himself and his two young children in a gas explosion at his home. Josh Powell greeted his sons for a supervised visit before bundling them inside the Washington state home and blocking a social worker from entering. Moments later an explosion ripped through the rental home in Graham, killing Powell and his two boys, aged five and seven. The child protection officer had called her supervisors to report that she could smell gas. Sgt. Ed Troyer, Pierce County sheriff's spokesman, said emails that Powell sent authorities seemed to confirm that Powell planned the deadly blast. Graham Fire and Rescue Chief Gary Franz told The Associated Press: 'Everything we know right now, this has become a crime scene.' A lawyer for Josh Powell says he received a three-word email from his client just minutes before Powell and sons Charlie and Braden died in a house explosion. It said, 'I'm sorry, goodbye.'

WASHINGTON - An Oxon Hill man has confessed to the murder of Lenny Harris, an Alexandria community activist whose body was found at the bottom of a Fort Washington well on Saturday. Police say Linwood Johnson, 49, confessed to the crime during questioning, saying the men knew each other and the motive was robbery. Police say there is a possibility additional suspects were involved and their investigation continues. Police confirm Harris died of a gunshot. Information in the missing person's case file at the Alexandria Police Department led detectives to Linwood, Prince George's County police say. Police retrieved the body two days after an anonymous tip to look in an abandoned 20-foot well located behind a vacant home in the 11900 block of Old Fort Road, roughly halfway between Gallahan and Livingston Roads. There were delays in removing the body as police had to wait for a permit to obtain the equipment necessary to perform the excavation.

BAYTOWN, Texas – A 14-year-old Baytown girl who went missing on New Year’s Eve has been reunited with her family, according to the Houston Police Department. Morgan Hernandez was spotted at the Galleria Sunday by a citizen who had seen her picture on flyers posted online and around the Houston area. The citizen tracked down an HPD officer who was working security at the Galleria and he questioned the girl and confirmed her identity. Police said the teen told them an elaborate story about where she’d been these last few weeks, but they believe she made it up. Hernandez disappeared from Discovery Green on Dec. 31. She was at a concert with her grandmother and two brothers when she vanished. Witnesses said she was seen getting into a car with an unknown male so family members feared foul play. Police said all along that they believed Hernandez was a runaway.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team have recovered the body of Vinesa Snegur from the Clackamas River. Russian volunteers looking for her spotted the body just before 2pm Saturday afternoon and called for help. Vinesa's body was found in the Clackamas River approximately four miles downstream from where she fell into the river last Sunday. Clackamas County Sheriff’s Dive Rescue team recovered Vinesa’s body from the rocks of a shallow island in the middle of the Clackamas River. It is believed Vinesa’s body had been previously trapped underwater, further upstream, and was recently dislodged by the high water levels.

ATLANTA -- Tony English, the father of missing Buckhead resident Stacey English, told 11Alive News he received a 7:15 phone call Wednesday morning from the Fulton County Medical Examiner that a body found in southeast Atlanta Monday evening is that of his missing daughter. The Fulton County Medical Examiner finished the initial phase of an autopsy on the body Tuesday night, but did not confirm that the remains belonged to English until Wednesday. According to family, English received updated dental X-rays two days before she went missing. There was a delay in obtaining those new dental records when her family could temporarily not locate her medical cards and her purse. The Medical Examiner's office says the autopsy has not revealed the cause of death, and that more tests are needed. Cindy and Kevin Jamison, English's mother and stepfather, talked to 11Alive News from their Jonesboro home Tuesday evening. Cindy Jamison said the hardest part was watching the speculation on television. "You look at the news and you see the picture of our daughter and they're talking about this body that was found, but they're already making the association," she said. "It really tugs at us a lot harder.A group of men searching for scrap metal found the body under a tree in southeast Atlanta. Police spokesman Carlos Campos said the body is in an "advanced stage of decomposition" and appeared to be wedged under the tree. The body was discovered about a mile from the spot where police found English's car abandoned but still running on December 27.

CALGARY — A 35-year-old Claresholm, Alta., man charged with murdering a Vulcan, Alta., senior is accused of "dismembering" the body before disposing it in various locations, according to court documents. The gruesome allegation came to light following a court appearance Tuesday by Timmy Douglas Engel, who then spent the afternoon with investigators who are probing the killing of Otto (Bunty) Loose. An RCMP spokesman said Engel, who is in custody, accompanied investigators to several locations associated with the crime. "He has been co-operative," said Sgt. Patrick Webb. An autopsy Tuesday confirmed Loose's death was a homicide. Police said Loose's remains were found in a wooded area near Claresholm, but have not disclosed how he was killed. Vulcan-area resident Otto "Bunty" Loose was murdered Jan. 9 near Claresholm, say RCMP. RCMP anticipate laying charges of murder in the first degree, committing an indignity to human remains, kidnapping and forcible confinement against a 35-year-old Claresholm man. The man, whose name was not released by the Advocate's press deadline, is in RCMP custody. A 28-year-old woman, the man's common law spouse, has also been arrested, and might be charged with being an assessory to murder and obstruction of justice, RCMP said. Unfortunately we found the remains of Mr. Loose in a rural wooden area" in the Claresholm area, said RCMP Supt. Randy McGinnis during a news conference at the Vulcan detachment Monday afternoon. It is alleged that the man abducted the victim from his residence 10 kilometres southwest of Vulcan late Sunday evening, say RCMP. The victim was transported in his own vehicle to both Nanton and Claresholm where suspicious financial transactions were attempted by the accused.Police say he was killed at a rural location near Claresholm, and his remains were then transported to a remote wooded area where they were located by RCMP investigators on Saturday.

UPDATE, 3:45 p.m.: YAVAPAI COUNTY - A body believed to be a missing Phoenix man was found Wednesday in a car that had fallen down a 150-foot ravine off Highway 89, said a Prescott police spokesman. Harold "Hank" Nesbit Keeton III, 61, left his home in Phoenix at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, to come to his vacation home in Prescott, but hadn't been seen or heard from since, said Prescott Police Lt. Andy Reinhardt. Although police have reason to believe the car is Keeton's, Reinhardt said, they could not say conclusively Wednesday that Keeton was the driver. Reinhardt said that investigators were able to determine that Keeton had made it to his vacation home at about 1 a.m. Saturday, but then left again. Keeton's car, a 2010 red Subaru Forester, was located in a deep ravine near milepost 304 on Highway 89, south of Prescott, Wednesday morning by a patrolling DPS Ranger helicopter, said DPS Capt. Daniel Golden. The aircrew managed to get a paramedic to the vehicle, which was concealed by heavy brush and at a precarious angle, said Golden. The paramedic discovered the sole occupant was deceased. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team was called to the scene to rappel down to the car and determine if the victim's body could be safely removed or if the entire car would have to be hauled up.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia police looking for a South Carolina toddler missing since Thanksgiving have found a shovel and what appear to be bloody clothes and blankets in his mother's home and car, according to search warrants. Police went to the home of Zinah Jennings home earlier this month after her stepfather told police he had seen her in the backyard with a shovel around the time Amir Jennings disappeared. Using a cadaver dog to search the house near downtown Columbia, investigators found a shovel. A dog was also used to search Jennings' car, where investigators say they found blankets and clothes with stains that appear to be blood. Investigators said the items were being analyzed by state police. Police also obtained surveillance video and records of Jennings' computer use at the Richland County Public Library after receiving a tip Jan. 5 that the woman was a frequent visitor there. Warrants show authorities also collected a DNA swab from Jennings' cheek and her medical records from a visit to the hospital after a Christmas Eve car wreck. Jennings has been jailed since Dec. 30 after police said she repeatedly lied to them about where her son was. Last week, the boy's grandmother pleaded with the public to help authorities find the toddler she described as a happy, gap-toothed child who enjoys nursery rhymes and responds to "Mir Mir" and "AJ." He was about 18 months old when he was last seen. Jocelyn Jennings Nelson reported her daughter missing in early December, saying she was worried about the boy and Jennings, who she said struggled with depression and started acting erratically after her son's birth. Police began looking for the 22-year-old mother but said they also considered that relatives said she had repeatedly left town for days at a time, taking her son to visit friends in neighboring states.

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Police say they have enough evidence to investigate Dawna Natzke's death as a homicide. Lt. James "Corky" Martin with Garland County Sheriff's Department says they have a person of interest as well but are not releasing any names. They are still waiting for autopsy results from the Arkansas Crime Lab but Martin says "for reasons detrimental to the case" they won't be releasing the results.

Police have confirmed the body found in the woods outside Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, is Dawna Natzke, an emergency dispatcher who disappeared December 21. Investigators in the private gated community have not said how Ms Natzke died or what condition her body was in when volunteers discovered her Saturday. The last person to see the mother of three alive was her live-in boyfriend Kevin Duck, 28, who claims he last saw her watching television at 11pm when he went to bed, according to police. When he woke up the next morning, she and her car were gone. Ms Natzke, 46, is married but separated from her husband.

A piece of men's clothing found in the remote woods of northern Nevada might provide a clue about the fate of a British Columbia man missing in the area since last winter.Police in Nevada say they're still looking for Albert Chretien, of Penticton, B.C., whose wife survived nearly two months in the backcountry while he went for help. Rita and Albert Chretien disappeared in March while driving from their home in Penticton to a trade show in Las Vegas. A group of hunters found Rita 49 days later still in the couple's van, but Albert, who left the vehicle in search of help, hasn't been seen since. A pair of men's underwear was recently found, but there is no indication the clothing belonged to Chretien, police said. A DNA test will be performed on the material. The sheriff's office in Elko County said in August that the official search had ended, but officials say they have continued to search during the past several months. A news release said the search has focused on several steep canyons and waterways near where the van was located, and will continue when weather allows.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have released information on missing 9-year-old Aliahna Lemmon. Investigators revealed in a Monday evening press conference that the body of Lemmon was discovered after police interviewed the man she was staying with for the past week. Police have arrested Michael Plumadore, 39, Fort Wayne, and charged him with murder. He’s due to be arraigned in court Tuesday morning. Plumadore was a friend of the family, according to police. Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries said, “Unfortunately tonight, the search came to a conclusion we’d hoped wouldn’t happen. After three different interviews with one of the individuals involved, he was taken into custody tonight about 9 p.m. and charged with murder.” Fries would only say her body was discovered in northern Allen County. Lemmon was reported missing on Dec. 23 at 8:40 p.m. Investigators believe the crime occurred sometime before Friday evening. Detectives and the FBI gathered enough information on the third interview, according to Fries. Enough information was gathered to bring officials to the conclusion of the investigation. Fries would not disclose the motive for the killing, or the manner of death in Lemmon’s murder. The Sheriff said Lemmon’s body was discovered shortly after the interview was conducted around 9 p.m. Monday evening.

Nichole Sherman, the Lower Columbia College student missing since Nov. 13, has been found dead in a car not far from her rural Columbia County home, the victim of a car crash, Sheriff Jeff Dickerson said Saturday. Sherman, 19, left her home headed to a friend's house and never arrived. Police drove the roads in the area and her family and a volunteer search and rescue group also searched the area by foot earlier this month. Based on unsuccessful searches, officials at the time said they did not believe Sherman had crashed and instead had either met with foul play or decided to leave on her home.

A Wilson man reported missing after last being seen in Burlington was found visiting with family out-of-state, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday. Michael Lloyd Williams, 41, of Wilson, was reported missing Dec. 6 after he didn’t return home in Wilson and didn’t show up for work Dec. 5. Williams’ fiancée, Kristy Strickland, last saw him in Burlington around 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4. Williams frequently travels to Burlington to see Strickland, said her sister Nichole Walters. Calls to his cell phone had gone straight to Williams' voicemail since Dec. 5, Walters said. Alamance County detectives opened a missing person case Friday. Wilson County detectives originally opened the case after Williams’ mother reported him missing last Tuesday morning. That department opened a case on the FBI’s National Crime Information Center last week. As of Friday evening, there were no leads on the case, Wilson County Sgt. Wanda Samuels said. Williams was located Monday after he called Strickland and his mother. He said he’d gone to visit his father in Missouri, Walters said.

The body of Karen Swift was found just two miles from her Tennessee home, nearly six weeks after the 44-year-old mother was reported missing. Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge John Mehr told CNN that the body was discovered Saturday in Dyer County, near Bledsoe Cemetery. Swift was last seen at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 30. Later that day, her 2004 Nissan Murano was found abandoned on the Millsfield Highway, roughly half a mile from her home, 77 miles northeast of Memphis. "I just want to know who it was [who committed the crime] and I want them prosecuted," Janet Ross, a friend of Swift's from high school, told KAIT8.com.Swift, a mother with four children, had filed for divorce on Oct. 11, citing irreconcilable differences. However, she and her husband, David, were still living together. David Smith has been interviewed by police, but no suspects have have been named.

Hope Mills, N.C. — A search team looking for a missing Hope Mills mother of two found a woman's body in a wooded area Sunday afternoon, authorities said. They haven't confirmed whether it is Edwardyne "Dynee" Williams, 50, who was last seen Nov. 27, but have said they are treating it as a suspicious death investigation. A cause of death has not been determined due to decomposition, authorities said, and the body will be sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy. The body was found close to the roadway off Canady Pond Road, near the John McMillan Road intersection, around 2 p.m., according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say the man charged Wednesday with the killing of 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera lived and worked at the same Canton apartment complex where the girl disappeared, and one neighbor said the suspect even helped search for the missing girl. Ryan McCabe Brunn was taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said. The 20-year-old suspect has been assigned two public defenders and has a first court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Thursday before Superior Court Judge Frank Mills in the Cherokee County Justice Center, Canton. GBI Director Vernon Keenan isaid Brunn lived at the River Ridge apartment complex where Jorelys lived and was killed, and had been a maintenance worker there. Tips from the public led investigators to Brunn, who was interviewed Monday and Tuesday, Keenan said. Neighbor David Lott told the AJC Brunn was among those searching for Jorelys late Friday, just hours after she disappeared. "Usually if someone's done something bad, they'd be nervous," Lott said Wednesday afternoon, just steps away from the playground. "He was just calm and collected." Calling the killing "planned and calculated," Keenan declined to discuss evidence leading to the arrest. But he said the investigation is not over, noting, "This is a mammoth case." Brunn, who has no known criminal record, had been under police surveillance since Tuesday evening, Keenan said. He had been employed at the complex since Nov. 7, John Bankhead, GBI spokesman, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Investigators will now re-trace Brunn's history at previous addresses, including Lumpkin County, and in another state, Keenan said. Brunn has been charged with homicide and making false statements, according to the affidavit for his arrest warrant, and additional charges may be filed by the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office. CANTON, Ga. -- The body of a 7-year-old girl who had been missing since Friday was found Monday afternoon in a dumpster from her apartment complex. GBI Director Vernon Keenan said it appears Jorelys Rivera was severely beaten and sexually assaulted. "This is going to be a very horrendous crime," Keenan said shortly after 2 p.m. Monday. "I'm convinced of that after observing the body." Keenan said the contents of the dumpster where the girl's body was found were compacted and had not been searched before. Early Monday afternoon, police moved the dumpster from the River Ridge Apartments to a field off Reinhardt College Parkway, so they could sift through it. Jorelys' body was taken to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy. A murder investigation is now underway. So far, Keenan said "We do not have a strong suspect."

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, HAMILTON COUNTY - (WRCB) - Sheriff Jim Hammond confirms human remains have been found near the Jeep of Gail Palmgren. The Sheriff tells Channel 3, the remains were found about 100 yards from Palmgren's vehicle, but he has not confirmed they belong to Gail Palmgren. Palmgren's red Jeep Rubicon was found several hundred feet down a steep cliff on Signal Mountain Thursday, just off East Brow Road. Sheriff Hammond says personal items indicate the remains are that of the missing mom. A cell phone was found inside the vehicle and purse with ID was located nearby. Hammond says a forensic team from Knoxville has been called to the scene to recover and positively identify the remains. At this point, the Sheriff says they are trying to safely remove the vehicle. Hammond says they're unable to cut a trail to the wreckage, due to the steep terrain. The Jeep Rubicon is resting against an uprooted tree, and Hammond says the vehicle is severely damage, appearing to have rolled several times. At first glance, the Sheriff says, it does appear the driver's seatbelt was not connected. Palmgren was last seen leaving the family home at 40 Ridgerock Drive on Signal Mountain on April 30 in her ruby red Jeep Rubicon.

Arthur Morgan III Suspected In Death Of Tierra Morgan-Glover In New Jersey Last Week. SAN DIEGO -- A man accused in the death of his young daughter, who was found in a New Jersey river still strapped to her car seat, was arrested in San Diego on Tuesday. Arthur Morgan III, 27, was wanted in connection with the death of 2-year-old Tierra Morgan-Glover, according to authorities. Authorities said Morgan's daughter was with him for a court-approved visit on Nov. 21. He was supposed to have returned the child to her mother, Imani Benton, that day. The girl's body was discovered in the Shark River in Monmouth County still strapped to her car seat the following day, authorities said. 10News learned Morgan was arrested in the City Heights area Tuesday afternoon. Further details regarding his apprehension were not immediately released. Benton contacted authorities after Morgan failed to bring Tierra back, according to an Associated Press report. According to the AP, Morgan was charged in a state court with murder and in federal court with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. The FBI said he has ties to Texas and California, including San Diego; transit-related police departments across the country have been alerted to look for him. He was last seen in New Jersey on Nov. 21 on a train station platform in Asbury Park, not far from the park where his daughter's body was discovered.Her cause of death was listed as "homicidal violence, including submersion in water." The FBI said the stream runs beneath an overpass, suggesting the child and the car seat were thrown from the overpass. She was buried on Monday.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Police said the parents of a 2-year-old boy came forward to claim him Sunday after he was found with a woman who was not his parent or guardian. Police said the toddler was taken into protective custody after he was found in the arms of a 30-year-old woman. The woman has mental health issues and was also high on drugs, police said. She was not able to identify the boy and police determined he did not belong to her. It’s unclear how the boy ended up with the woman. Police released photos of the boy and asked for the public's help in identifying him and locating his parents. Shortly afterward, his parents came forward to claim him.

Police released no information on who was arrested, but jail officials confirm that Tyler's mother -- 20-year-old Shelby A. Dasher -- was being held at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Louis County Justice Center. A police source says authorities believe Shelby Dasher killed her son after she "became very, very angry." It was unclear what triggered her rage. Dasher was taken into custody early Wednesday, and brought to the spot where the boy's body was found at the edge of a wooded cemetery near the River Des Peres. They then went to the boy's home.The St. Louis County Justice Center said Dasher was being held on what's called a 20-hour hold, which means she can be released if charges aren't brought within that timeframe. But the medical examiner who confirmed the body as that of Tyler Dasher did not immediately determine the cause of death, county police spokesman Rick Eckhard said. Police did not plan to release any more information until Wednesday morning. Tyler was reported missing around 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Affton home he shared with his mother, 20-year-old Shelby Dasher, and his grandmother. Shelby Dasher told police she had put Tyler to bed after midnight, then overslept and discovered him gone from his crib when she awoke. Eckhard said in a written statement that police did not yet have a motive "for the abduction or apparent homicide." St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch said at a news conference earlier Tuesday that people walking a dog found the body around 3:30 p.m. about a mile from the home. No one has been arrested. AUBURN, Ala. -- Authorities said Tuesday they’ve identified the remains of a missing pregnant woman and charged the father of her unborn child with capital murder in the deaths. Keith Lemar Ware, 30, was arrested early Tuesday afternoon in Opelika, Ala. He faces a capital murder charge in connection with the death of his girlfriend, 31-year-old Cherri N. Dawson, and the unborn child, said Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson. “We do not want to speculate at this time as to a motive,” the chief added. Cherri Dawson, who was five months pregnant, went missing Oct. 8. Her vehicle was found burned on Chambers County Road 95 the day after she disappeared. On Oct. 25, Tallapoosa County authorities responded to Walker Road, near Camp Hill, about remains being found. At the time, it was unknown whether they were human or animal. That changed late Monday, Tommy Dawson said. “We believe the remains belong to Cherri Dawson,” the chief added. Authorities declined to reveal a cause of death. Ware, of Lafayette, Ala., was arrested around 12:30 p.m. CDT Tuesday at his job. Tommy Dawson declined to say where he worked.
Crime Lab Confirms Identity of Remains - Steve Lynn Reed

The state crime lab has identified the human remains found along Highway 65 on Nov. 3, just north of Greenbrier, to be that of Steve Reed, reported missing out of Lonoke County. The Faulkner County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that between 70 and 75 percent of Reed's bones were recovered at the scene. Major Andy Shock, public information officer for the FCSO, said that among the bones recovered was Reed's skull. "From the crime lab's report, they've stated that there were no chips in the skull or bones, no trauma or gunshot wounds. There's nothing we've received from the crime lab that leads us to believe there was foul play here," Shock said. Shock said that the sheriff's office is working with Arkansas State Police on "followup investigation that led to Reed's passing." At this point, nothing in our investigation leads us to believe that foul play was involved. We're doing some followup investigation - talking to people who had some contact with him and making sure that nothing was missed."

The boyfriend of the mother of the 11-month-old girl reported missing last month, and who was arrested the day police found a baby dead in an Oceanfront parking garage, has been charged in connection with the girl's treatment. Lawrence Ray Smith Jr., 33, was arraigned Wednesday in Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, charged with transporting and concealing a dead body and child abuse and neglect, said Macie Pridgen, a spokeswoman for the Beach commonwealth's attorney's office. Police are awaiting a medical examiner's report on the baby who was found and have not officially identified her, but after she was found, the search for Janyiha Whiteman - the missing baby - was called off. Pridgen also said Janyiha was the alleged victim of Smith's abuse and neglect charge. A bond hearing on Smith's new charges is set for today.

MOBILE, Ala.) - Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich says the couple accused in horrific deaths of two young children have been found competent to stand trial. Heather Keaton and John Deblase are charged with Capital Murder. The bodies of 4 year old Natalie and three year old Chase Deblase were found buried in shallow graves off rural roads in Citronelle and Mississippi last year. Both suspects in this case have undergone mental evaluations. According to the DA's office, both Deblase and Keaton, now waiting at metro jail for their trial, were found by state psychologists to be competent. Both have pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. A judge has not reviewed this yet to determine if in fact the couple is competent to stand trial.

MOAB -- A hiker found the body of a Moab man who had been missing for more than three months.The remains of David Brown, 37, were discovered 400 feet below a ridge near the Moab Rim. Searchers had combed that area extensively in the days following Brown's disappearance June 29 but didn't find anything. Moab Police Chief Mike Navarre said, "It's an extremely rough area. It's hard to climb around in there, to walk around in there, even from the air to see something from there; it's not surprising to me that we didn't find him on those first searches." Police are still waiting for an autopsy report from the Medical Examiner, but they don't suspect foul play was involved.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina woman who pleaded guilty last month to killing her 10-year-old disabled stepdaughter now insists in a jail interview that she's innocent. A North Carolina newspaper reported Sunday that 43-year-old Elisa Baker of Hickory portrayed herself as a loving stepmother who was only following her lawyer's advice in pleading guilty. Baker was sentenced to 15 to 18 years in prison for second-degree murder, nearly a year after she initially claimed her stepdaughter, Zahra, had been kidnapped. Authorities say Baker told them Zahra was dismembered and led them to some of her scattered remains, though her skull was not found.Her lawyer, Scott Reilly, says he advised her to take the deal because the evidence against her was so strong a jury would likely find her guilty in five minutes.

UPDATE: Friday morning at approximately 3:30 a.m., Virginia Beach police officers found Smith walking in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue. Officers took Smith into custody without incident. The investigation led detectives to a hotel parking lot in the 1800 block of Atlantic Avenue where a child's body has been recovered. The case is now being treated as a suspicious death. The cause of death and identification will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office located in Norfolk, Virginia. Lawrence Ray Smith is in custody on the unrelated felony charges.

LEWISTON — Police arrested a Lewiston man early Friday and charged him with the murder of 22-year-old Christiana Melusine Fesmire of Lewiston, missing since early July. Lewiston and state police arrested Buddy Robinson, 30, of 688 Sabattus St., at 1:48 a.m. Friday. He was arrested at his girlfriend's home in New Gloucester, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Robinson is currently being held without bail at the Androscoggin County Jail. Police said Fesmire's body has not been recovered. Evidence gathered earlier by police at Fesmire's 36 Highland Ave. apartment, one of several Lewiston buildings searched, led police to believe Fesmire was murdered. "(The evidence) was analyzed at the crime laboratory and that led us to the conclusion that she was likely killed inside the home and her body has been transported elsewhere," McCausland said. "We have not located her body but will continue to look for it," he said. Robinson also lived at the 36 Highland Ave. location, which had at least two apartments, McCausland said. Robinson was scheduled to appear at Androscoggin Superior Court at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Hunters found a body near Myrtle Creek, which is north of Riddle, and reported it to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The man had a serious head wound, which looked like it may have been caused by a gunshot, according to a report in the Roseburg News Review. The county's major crimes team was investigating. Detectives have not released the identity of the deceased person, only that they're sure it was not Mark Bosworth. Bosworth disappeared more than two weeks ago in the small Southern Oregon town of Riddle while working as a volunteer for Cycle Oregon.

Remains believed to be Monge's were found Sept. 7 in a field near Keenesburg, about 40 miles from Denver. The 31-year-old Forbes planned to plead guilty to attempted first-degree murder in a separate arson and assault case in Fort Collins. He would serve 48 years in prison in that case, plus five years' parole. In exchange for both pleas, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty. The Fort Collins case was to be heard on Tuesday.

CONCORD, N.H. — An 11-year-old girl whose body was found in a river last month was murdered, New Hampshire authorities said Thursday. Investigators said they also know what caused the death of Celina Cass. But they aren't making it public, because they say doing so could harm the integrity of the investigation. "The investigation into the facts and circumstances of Celina Cass's murder remains active," Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said in a statement. Celina was reported missing July 26. Her body was found a week later in the Connecticut River, not far from her West Stewartstown home. A reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest. No suspects have been named. Young said Thursday that the cause of death was determined through information gleaned from the investigation and from toxicology tests.

Church members' find helps bring closure to missing woman case. SALISBURY -- A little more than a week after she was reported missing by her husband, the female body found behind a Princess Anne church was positively identified as 55-year-old Alice Elizabeth Davis, according to state police. The identification was made using dental record comparisons at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, according to authorities. The cause and manner of death had not been determined as of late Monday. "I'm very sad," said Wicomico Sheriff Mike Lewis. "Certainly this is part of the finality we expected. "It's not what we hoped for but its what we expected." Davis' body was discovered by congregation members at about 5 p.m. Sunday in a wooded area behind the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob Church, about a quarter of a mile from the road, according to police. The church is located a little more than seven miles from the Davis home on Allen Road. Decomposition and trauma to the body made it difficult for police to initially determine sex and race, so investigators had to wait for confirmation from the Medical Examiner's Office. Davis, an Allen resident and an Advanced Placement English teacher and department chairwoman at Parkside High School, worked at school for 28 years. She was also the sister of Barrie Parsons Tilghman, the first female mayor of Salisbury. "She was a really nice person," said John Fredericksen, the superintendent of Wicomico County schools. "She was smart and had a knack for getting kids to write."

Authorities in Maryland are trying to determine if a body found by a church group yesterday is that of missing school teacher Alice Davis. The body was discovered late Sunday afternoon behind the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob Church in rural Somerset County. Members of the congregation had been back in the woods and unexpectedly found the body, police said. A 55-year-old English teacher at Parkside High School in Salisbury, Alice Davis was last seen on Sept. 4. Her husband, Jesse Davis, 58, contacted police and reported her missing the following day and authorities located her blue 2010 Honda Fit hatchback abandoned in Fruitland, Md. On September 7, the search for Alice Davis took an unexpected turn when authorities found her husband dead of an apparent suicide inside their home. According to Maryland State Police, there are signs of trauma to the body that was found yesterday, but specific details are not being released at this time. The body has been transported to the office of the chief medical examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy and positive identification.

Morgan Johnson disappeared in mid-May . He was last seen in surveillance footage at nearly midnight on May 18 at the extended stay hotel at which he was staying in Plainfield. Sunday, Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett declared Sunday the day to remember Johnson and promote awareness of his case, 24-Hour News 8's news partner WTHI reported. It was a carnival-like atmosphere, with food, karaoke and even a dunk tank, but the purpose was serious: to find Morgan Johnson. "It's just wonderful that the love that the community gives and the way they volunteer to help," said Johnson’s mother, Ann Smith. A group calling itself the Find Morgan Johnson Coalition has used various efforts to keep the case in the spotlight and have even expanded the search to Washington, D.C., because Johnson may have been travelling to that area when he disappeared. The body was found on July 26, 2011. The Lincoln County Coroner used dental records to indentify the body as 24 year old Nicholas Michael Coppola of St Charles County, MO. Coppola was last seen on December 10, 2010. Coppola was last seen in his apartment in Columbia, MO. Two days later, police found his car abandoned along I-70 near Foristell. Gibraltar — Police discovered human remains stored in a container in the closet of a 52-year-old man arrested yesterday in connection of the death of a woman whose remains were found in a suitcase. The suspect lives in an apartment complex neighboring the condominium housing where Pam Prpich, 32, lived, police said. Parts of Prpich's lower body were found stuffed into a suitcase last week behind the Bella Vista condominiums on West Jefferson. She had been missing for nearly a week when a relative found her remains, authorities said. They arrested the man near his residence around 5 p.m. Wednesday. At 12:30 a.m. today, police armed with a search warrant went into the man's apartment and discovered the remains. "When you opened that closet door, you couldn't smell anything," said Ray Canterbury, Gibraltar police chief. "The apartment was well-maintained and it didn't look like a crime scene." The man confessed to being involved in the dismemberment and the disposal of the body — but not the murder, Canterbury said. But police believe the person in custody is responsible for her death and acted alone. A cause of death has yet to be determined. Authorities are waiting on autopsy results from the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office. "We're preparing a homicide warrant but it will be up to the prosecutors what the charges will be," Canterbury said. The 52-year-old and Prpich knew each other, Canterbury said, but it was unclear if they were friends.The man is expected to be arraigned Friday in 33rd District Court in Woodhaven. Michael Prpich, the victim's brother, said the family is relieved police have a suspect. "We just want to make sure everyone involved gets punished. We're still in the recovery phase. We just want to know what happened."

MOBILE, Alabama -- Skeletal remains found off a rural road in south Mobile County on Friday afternoon are those of 24-year-old Tammy Stokes, who had been missing for more than three years, authorities said. About the same time the positive identification was made Wednesday afternoon, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 34-year-old Grand Bay man and charged him with murder, sheriff’s spokeswoman Lori Myles said. A sheriff’s investigator said more arrests are probable. Isaac Isahas Washington, 34, was arrested at a residence on McGhee Road in Grand Bay and charged with murder, according to records at Mobile County Metro Jail. Washington has an extensive criminal record, including drug-related arrests involving cocaine, marijuana and controlled substances. He also has been charged with theft, receiving stolen property, domestic violence and numerous traffic offenses, according to online jail records. Stokes, the mother of 2 daughters, now 8 and 6, was last seen May 28, 2008, driving her boyfriend’s Ford Explorer from Mobile. The Explorer was found that day on the side of a road in Irvington and had been burned. Stokes’ remains were found Friday afternoon after an anonymous tip led Bayou La Batre police to an overgrown area off Armstead Road south of the Grand Bay business district. The dirt road runs off Henderson Camp Road. The remains were sent to the anthropology department at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, and Stokes’ family supplied UWF with Stokes’ dental records, Myles said. It was the dental records that provided the positive match, according to Sgt. Paul Burch, the sheriff’s office major crimes supervisor. According to Burch, evidence showed that Stokes was shot at the same place where her remains were found.

A joint statement sent Tuesday night from prosecutors and law enforcement officers in the area said a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer searching by boat found the body of Breeann Rodriguez near the floodway ditches about eight miles southeast of the girl's family's home in Senath. "We appreciate all the help and support from the community in what has been a difficult time for all," Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder said in the statement. "We are saddened to confirm our fears but glad we have been able to recover her for her parents." The girl's parents were notified shortly after she was found, according to authorities. An American Tourist has disappeared in Aruba, and this time, she is from our area. 35-year-old Robyn Gardner of Frederick, Md., vanished from the same resort town in Aruba last week where Natalee Holloway was last seen in May 2005. Holloway disappeared during a high school senior trip. Her body has never been found. Gardner was on the island with Gary Giordano of Frederick, who police have now detained for questioning. Giordano told investigators Gardner never made it back to shore after the two went snorkeling. He reportedly has changed the details of his story several times. Gardner's boyfriend of two years, Richard Forester, does not buy Giordano's account. He is asking for help to find her. I want to let people know this is going on," Forester said. "She's been missing six days, and every day she's gone raises fear that she won't be coming back." Giordano was detained while trying to leave the island. He continues to be questioned about his dealings with Gardner. Gardner was last seen on Tuesday, August 2 at the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino in Oranjestad, Aruba, according to the Natalee Holloway Resource Center. It is good for us to recognize that life does move on, but we will never forget that a precious child was taken from her family and her community,’’ said Matthew Coons, pastor of Independent Baptist Church in West Stewartstown, at the ceremony. An autopsy conducted on the body of an 11-year-old girl who went missing for a week before being found dead in a river was unable to determine how she died, authorities said Tuesday. Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said the autopsy was conducted Tuesday but didn't determine the cause or manner of Celina Cass' death and further study is required. Celina's death has been deemed suspicious, based on what divers found, and investigators were treating the case as a criminal investigation. Community residents were saddened that the autopsy wasn't able to provide them with any closure. "I don't even know what to say. I thought the community needed some answers, and I thought we were going to get them tonight," said Debbie Whelan, whose daughter, a friend of Celina's, was sobbing after watching a news report on a TV monitor. Residents considered canceling their annual children's fair in light of the fifth-grader's death but instead decided to go forward with the weekend event and to dedicate it to her memory. "It's still a scary place for our children," Patricia Grover, who's on the organizing committee for Stewartstown Days, told The Associated Press. "They need something that's on a little happier note for them."

BREAKING: Essex County states attorney Vincent Illuzzi has confirmed that investigators have found a body in the Connecticut River Monday morning, where police are searching for missing 11-year-old New Hampshire girl Celina Cass. Illuzzi says the body was found about 9:00 a.m.. He says an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The body has not been identified yet, and New Hampshire authorities would not talk about the discovery. This is about a quarter-of-a-mile from where Cass was last seen, in her home in West Stewartstown home on July 25. State Police from Vermont and New Hampshire have a heavy presence on the Power House Road in Canaan, Vermont, where the search for a missing 11-year-old Celina Cass continues. The vigil was held one day after DNA testing confirmed the badly burned body found at house on Waverly was indeed hers. “I can’t believe someone did that to my little cousin man,” said Pierre Howell. FORT BEND COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- A cross-country search for a missing mother brings investigators to southeast Texas after a dismembered body was found. Recovery efforts are under way in Fort Bend County in the search for the dismembered body of a missing North Carolina woman. Laura Jean Ackerson vanished from her home about two weeks ago. Two people are now in custody in connection with her death and we're learning one of them has ties to the Houston area. Divers are out at Oyster Creek searching for more body parts. It's the area where detectives tell us a torso was discovered along with other body parts, coolers that were allegedly used to transport those body parts from North Carolina and even a machete. HPD divers and Richmond firefighters are trying to find more of what investigators believe is the body of Laura Jean Ackerson, 27, a mother of two from North Carolina who vanished this month. Her ex-husband, Grant Ruffin Hayes, and his wife, Amanda Perry Hayes, were taken into custody at 1am and charged with Laura's murder. The arrests were made at his mother's home in Kinston, North Carolina. Detectives believe the pair killed Laura and then dismembered her body, travelling to Oyster Creek to dispose of it. The creek is across the street from the home of one of Amanda's relatives. That house is crawling with detectives although the residents are not there, and are not believed to have known what happened here. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says in addition to murder charges in North Carolina, the pair also faces charges for tampering with evidence.

Amy Ahonen vanished from the Clear Creek Canyon area around July 7th, leaving behind nothing to lead to her whereabouts. Since then, police have sort of drifted away from their investigation but have left the case open as a missing persons file until new leads come in that prove helpful. This isn't good enough for the family of Amy Ahonen, and for good reason. Nobody wants to go through this with a loved one. Andrea Ahonen spoke with a reporter about her missing sister, who is a couple of years younger than her. She is leaving the Denver area, heading back to Detroit to get back to her daily routine, and she is drained. It's tough when you're a family member from out-of-state. Andrea spent a couple of weeks in Denver, trying her hardest to find her sister, and she has no choice but to return to her home and remain hopeful that Amy Ahonen will call home and say she is okay. The journalist Andrea spoke to brought up an interesting point, and not one often mentioned while discussing this woman's disappearance. Could Amy Ahonen have been swept away by the rapids of the river? During the past few weeks, the waters of Clear Creek Canyon have been rushing rapidly, as well as other streams and rivers in Colorado and nearby states. In fact, a few bodies have already been pulled from rushing waters in related missing persons cases this week. It's a terrifying thought to think that Ms. Ahonen could have suffered a drowning fate, but it also makes sense given the evidence left behind in her disappearance. Her Jeep was pulled to the side of the road, unlocked and containing her keys and other belongings. It wasn't as if she was going to be gone very long at all.

PORTLAND - A body found last week by police on Rocky Butte is that of murdered Portland teenager Yashanee Vaughn. The Oregon State Medical Examiner made a positive identification of the 14-year-old by DNA testing. Investigators determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. Vaughn disappeared in Northeast Portland on March 19 and was reported missing by her mother two days later. Detectives arrested suspect 16-year-old Parrish Bennette, who led police to where the body was, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney. The District Attorney said no sentencing deal was made for the information that led to the remains on a steep hill off the roadway. Prosecutors believe Bennette shot Vaughn twice at his home and covered up the crime scene, where her blood showed up in forensic testing. A gun used in the crime was later handed off to Bennette's friends, police believe. A vigil was planned for 6 p.m. Tuesday at NE 92nd and Rocky Butte Road. The family announced a public funeral on July 30 at City Bible Church – Rocky Butte Campus 9200 N.E. Fremont. KATV) Greenbrier - Searchers have found what could be clues in the disappearance of an Austin man. 15 people gathered in Greenbrier Saturday to help look for 48-year-old Steve Reed. He was last seen in the area June 24th, his car was found off Highway 65, with no sign of him. Reed's sister-in-law tells Channel Seven, searchers found five pieces of a white shirt, a Mountain Dew bottle and an empty pack of the same type of cigarettes Reed smokes. Reed was wearing a white shirt the day he disappeared. The Faulkner County Sheriff's Department is sending the items to the State Crime Lab.

The family of a missing Colorado woman has asked investigators to find a man who contacted her through an ad she posted on Craigslist because they believe he could be connected to her disappearance. Amy Ahonen was so scared by a man who replied to her ad looking for a roommate in Denver she immediately took it down, her sister said. The 38-year-old was last seen at her Denver home on July 8. Her car was found unlocked, with her belongings inside, on U.S. 6 between Golden and Interstate 70. Amy Ahonen’s sister, Andrea Ahonen, said the man 'scared Amy' so much that she immediately took the ad down. She also believes she did not mean to leave her car for long. She said: 'It indicates to me she only meant to be away from that car for five minutes or less. We're from Detroit. We lock our doors.' Amy Ahonen’s friends initially thought she may have gone hiking in Clear Creek Canyon but that theory was shot down after her backpack was found inside her Denver apartment. Authorities were alerted when she did not show up for work as an interior designer and her SUV was later found abandoned. Police said that Ms Ahonen's purse, credit cards, cellphone and car keys were found inside the unlocked black Jeep Liberty, but there was no sign of the woman. On Saturday, search volunteers focused on Centennial Cone Park in unincorporated Jefferson County. Fox 31 reports that the Colorado State Patrol made brief contact with Ms Ahonen at around 10pm the Friday she disappeared after a driver saw her vehicle on the side of the highway. When he pulled over, the 38-year-old told the trooper that she did not need any help. Her roommate only reported her missing the following Sunday, which prompted authorities to go back to the area where they found her Jeep. According to 9News, members of the Alpine Rescue Team spent the day on Monday walking alongside a swift-moving Clear Creek in hopes of finding any clues. Spokesman Bill Barwick said: 'We really don't know where she might have gone.' He said their main concern is that the creek is swollen from recent rain and continuing snow melt.

A responsible, fun-loving guy who loves his family - that's how Fredericton resident Heather Brown describes her nephew David Brown, and that's why his disappearance is out of character. Like the rest of her family, Brown is wondering what happened to the 37-year-old internationally known skydiver from Halifax. David vanished without a trace from his trailer on the Skydive Moab site in Moab, Utah, on June 29 with nothing but the shoes on his feet and the shirt on his back. The two-week search hasn't yielded results, but the Moab Police Department told The Daily Gleaner it's still combing the desert looking for clues. Brown said David's family, which is scattered across the Maritimes with several aunts and uncles living in New Brunswick, appreciates the work the police department has been doing. "This is just not like him at all," she said. "When you say David's name, you just automatically smile because you think of him," she said. "It's like he was picked up out of the sky by aliens. The whole thing is just so strange." David's wallet, cellphone, a backpack filled with cash and all his personal identification papers were left behind at the motor home he was living in behind the residence of his boss and friend, Clint MacBeth. MacBeth, who hails from Moncton and opened Skydive Moab in November 2003, was one of the last people to see David before he disappeared. The Denver woman’s Jeep was found abandoned in Clear Creek Canyon, West of Golden Friday night. But now a witness claims he saw Amy and an unidentified male, “climbing up the embankment from the river” at 2pm on Friday afternoon. I’m very scared,” Amy’s friend Rob Stauch told FOX31 Denver. Stauch worries Amy was abducted from the area where her Jeep was found along U.S. 6 by the Colorado State Patrol.

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - In a new twist to a missing person's case, a local person found some personal property belonging to Jacque Waller on Hwy. 177 in Cape Girardeau County on Monday, according to Lt. David James with the Jackson Police Department. Jacque is the mother of triplets who has been missing since June 1. Clay Waller, Jacque's estranged husband, remains a person of interest in the case, but has not been charged. He had no comment Tuesday at a custody hearing. According to Jacque's sister Cheryl, the judge ordered no visitation rights for Jacque's estranged husband Clay Waller. Jacque Waller's sister and brother-in-law Cheryl and Bob Brenneke asked for a custody continuance at the Commonpleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau. According to Lt. James, Clay Waller says Jacque walked off after a fight on June 1. But they believe there's more to the story. Jacque Waller reportedly came to the residence Clay was staying in at the time of the separation, during the afternoon on June 1. She was there to pick up her son, but the child wasn't there. Detectives say the little boy was with a babysitter.

The search for missing infant Katerine “Baby Kate” Phillips continued this afternoon at the Leviathan disc golf course off of Jebavy Drive. Police asked volunteers to assist fire and law enforcement personnel in Tuesday’s search. About 30 people, including fire and law enforcement personnel, met at the disc golf parking lot at 3:30 p.m. and began the search around 4 p.m. Ludington Mayor John Henderson said about 30 acres remained to be searched in the area of in the disc golfcourse and the Ludington Area Schools forest. Captain Michael Harrie of the Ludington Police Department said he hoped the group would finish the search tonight. Federal authorities investigating the death of Monroe teen Phylicia Barnes are examining whether she was a victim of sexual exploitation or child pornography, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Baltimore. An FBI agent with Maryland's child exploitation task force filed three search warrants seeking access to the 16-year-old's email and Facebook accounts and the accounts of at least three other people. It's unclear whether a sex crime was committed. The warrant's affidavits are under seal, but a former FBI official told the Observer that the agency must have probable cause that exploitation occurred in order to secure the warrants. "This is not a shotgun approach of putting out search warrants to see if it hits something," said Chris Swecker, who once headed the FBI in North Carolina and later led all the agency's worldwide criminal investigations. "This is a focused investigation. They're pulling on a string. And that string is child exploitation." On Friday, the Maryland FBI did not return calls. Baltimore and Maryland police declined to discuss the investigation. At the end of the day, we're trying to get the killer behind bars and behind bars for a long time," Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. "And we're going to use every tool at our disposal." The search warrants, released June 30, request access to at least seven email accounts operated by Yahoo and AOL. Three include Phylicia's name or variations of it. The Observer sent inquiries to each email address, but none were returned. The search warrants, filed by Special Agent Jacqueline Dougher, also request access to four Facebook pages, including Phylicia's. Three of the pages already have been taken down. In the warrants, Dougher cites a "reason to believe" that the search will reveal evidence of child sex crimes or child pornography.

Casey Anthony has been found not guilty of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee. The jury declined to convict her of either first degree murder or manslaughter. Instead, the jurors found Casey Anthony guilty on four counts of providing false information to law enforcement, which are misdemeanors. It's possible she could be released from prison later this week. Clutching the hand of her defense attorney Jose Baez, Casey Anthony began to sob as the verdict was read. The rest of her defense team stood beside her, also clutching hands. She thanked Baez as she was swarmed by the defense team. Her parents, Cindy and George Anthony, left the courtroom as Judge Belvin Perry read further instructions to the jury and did not approach their daughter. They later released a statement saying, "Despite the baseless defense chosen by Casey Anthony, the family believes that the Jury made a fair decision based on the evidence presented, the testimony presented, the scientific information presented and the rules that were given to them by the Honorable Judge Perry to guide them." The jury, comprised of seven women and five men, declined to talk to the media following the verdict. Casey Anthony, who sat grim faced throughout the six weeks of testimony, beamed happily as she was fingerprinted in the courtroom for her misdemeanor convictions. Sentencing on the guilty counts will be held on 9 a.m. Thursday. The maximum sentence applicable in this case is four years, but having already served two and a half years behind bars, Casey Anthony stands to serve one and a half years. It is also possible that Judge Belvin Perry rules that Casey Anthony could serve the years concurrently, which would set her free. Casey Anthony could be let out on bail before her Thursday sentencing if the defense asks for it and the judge agrees. In a press conference after the verdict, defense attorney Cheney Mason railed at the media for their wall-to-wall coverage of the trial, remarking that it was "media assassination" filled with "bias and prejudice and incompetent talking heads." In a more tempered statement, Baez said, "While we're happy for Casey, there are no winners in this case. Caylee has passed on far, far too soon."

The badly decomposed body of a woman was found in Fall Creek on Sunday and the case raised the interest of Bloomington police investigating the disappearance of an Indiana University student. Witnesses made the gruesome discovery and called the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department shortly before 7 p.m. to report a body lodged between debris in the water near the 6500 block of East Fall Creek Parkway. The Bloomington Police Department, which is still investigating the disappearance of 20-year-old Indiana University student Lauren Spierer, said it was aware of the discovery of a woman’s body in Indianapolis and had contacted IMPD. But the body was so badly decomposed that not even the race, age, height or build is immediately known, said Bloomington Lt. Bill Parker. The department decided to issue a statement after media inquiries about a potential link. We felt it best to go ahead and put a release out that, of course, when we found out about this body we made contact with IMPD but there’s just not enough information yet to know anything about it,” Parker said. The Marion County coroner's office is investigating, and an autopsy will be conducted, Indianapolis metropolitan police said.

LUDINGTON, Mich. -- Authorities say clothing has been located that a missing 4 1/2-month-old western Michigan girl was last seen wearing. The Ludington Daily News reported Saturday that police didn’t disclose where the clothing was found. The update came from a news conference. Police have been searching the area between the Ludington apartment where Katherine Phillips lives with her mother and the Scottville home of Sean Phillips, the child’s father. Phillips was arrested on kidnapping and child enticement charges. Katherine Phillips last was seen Wednesday wearing pink shorts and a matching pink tank top with black and pink flowers. Ariel Courtland says her daughter was in the car when Phillips drove off Wednesday afternoon from her apartment, 80 miles northwest of Grand Rapids. Courtland says he told her Friday that Katherine is alive.

The body of a missing Texarkana, Texas man has been discovered in Nevada. Adam Blanchard, 27, has been missing since February. Police say blanchard left the city in January on a business trip. His family had last spoken to him by phone on February 2nd. Nye County, Nevada sheriff officials discovered Blanchard's body yesterday in the same remote hunting area that his truck had been discovered several months earlier. The body has been sent for an autopsy. Authorities say at this time, no foul play is suspected.

The body of Minh Nguyen, the 24 year old Westminister native who went missing nearly two weeks ago after a horrific rafting incident on the Kern River has been located, according to friends of the victim. Nguyen went missing after he and Scott Neacato and others were visiting the popular river location with friends during a weekend celebration on June 13. The two were swept away in dangerous and aggressive rapids. Local search and rescue teams were searching for another man who went missing on Friday (who's name has not been released) when helicopters searching the rugged wooded area spotted the body of Nguyen, and around 40 feet away, a second body was found. That body turned out to be of the missing man, and not Neacato.

Celebrities are even helping find missing IU student Lauren Spierer. Saturday was dubbed "Find Lauren Day"and the search expanded into surrounding counties. More than 500 volunteers came from all over to help find Lauren. The search has stayed alive through social media like Facebook and twitter. Celebrities like Nancy Grace get the word out to thousands of followers. Famous author, Nicholas Sparks gave away autographed books to followers who tweet about the search for Lauren. Kenwyn and Kerry Koning's own daughter had classes with Lauren and came out to search. "It's heartbreaking, and it could have been our daughter," said Kenwyn Koning. "We just want people to come out and help." You can tell by looking at Kerry's boots how strenuous the search is. "Sometimes you're walking up some steep hills and climbing over logs," he said. The National Guard is covering some of the toughest terrain. Professional searchers have even come in. A pedometer shows that group covering 12,000 steps, which equates to about 6 miles.

Three weeks after Edgemont's Lauren Spierer went missing from Indiana University, the lack of information from the sophomore's college friends has been frustrating her family and stalling local police. Five of those who've been involved in the investigation — Jesse Wolff, Lauren's boyfriend; and friends Corey Rossman, Mike Beth, Jay Rosenbaum and David Rohn, who all saw her during the last few hours before she disappeared — have retained lawyers. But the closing of the ranks among these young men and women might be more than just simply following legal advice. Experts say there's a psychological condition that often kicks in during these types of crises, which prevent people — typically those of college or high- school age — from doing the right thing. My guess is a lot of those kids are a bit confused and afraid at this point," said Jeff Cohen, program director of the Mercy College School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in Dobbs Ferry. Lauren Spierer's mother, Charlene, has said she's "extremely frustrated" only one of her daughter's friends has so far come forward to police with information. Often when teens or young adults close ranks they do it out of loyalty to someone who might be in trouble if the truth comes out, said Cohen, who's a former school psychologist at Ardsley middle and high schools.

HUNTINGTON -- A man under the influence of alcohol drove away in a stolen van with his girlfriend's young children and their babysitter inside Thursday night, said Huntington Police Chief Skip Holbrook. An Amber Alert was issued just before 11 p.m. Thursday for 3-year-old Richard "Ethan" Broyles and 9-month-old Tristan Broyles after Holbrook said Brent Travis Collins, who goes by Travis, stole the boys' mother's van following a domestic incident Tuesday evening. The children and their babysitter were in a 2009 green Dodge Caravan, owned by the boys' mother, in the 2500 block of Washington Avenue when Collins, 41, got into the van and drove off, Holbrook said. The van was headed eastbound on I-64 when the babysitter called police, and alerted them to their whereabouts. Holbrook said Collins forced the baby sitter to exit the van at the McDonald's at the Huntington Mall when he found out she had contacted authorities. HPD was in the process of obtaining surveillance footage from McDonald's Thursday night. Holbrook said authorities have reason to believe Collins, who is not biologically related to the children, is in the Charleston area. Holbrook said authorities and Collins' family members had limited contact via telephone with him Thursday night. Holbrook said the mother of the missing boys was in the company of police officers Thursday night and was distraught, but fully cooperative with investigators.

TERRE HAUTE — The search continues for a missing man whose family in Vigo County continues to organize searches and canvass areas he was known to frequent. On Tuesday, Ann Johnson Smith talked to a coalition of people in Terre Haute organized to spread the word about her missing son. Johnson has a medical condition and may have been distraught about his grandfather’s recent death. The volunteer group met in a classroom at Sarah Scott Middle School, where Ann Smith is a teacher, to review ongoing efforts such as contacting hospitals, shelters, rehab centers, libraries, churches and other places where Morgan may have been seen. Volunteers helping in the search indicated their progress in making contacts and distributing fliers, and organizers said they found that churches seem to have been most helpful in spreading the word in the Plainfield and Indianapolis areas. Johnson’s car, a white 1995 Pontiac Grand Am with the license number JS1830, is also missing. Ann Smith, who said her son takes medicine for epileptic seizures, gave a timeline of when she last had contact with her son, who was employed by Brightpoint, a wireless services company in Plainfield.

The search continues in Tulare County for a Westminster man and his friend from Los Angeles whose raft capsized while they were trying to cross the Kern River last week. A group of 11 people were camping in the area of Ant Canyon on June 13 when they tied a line across the river and tied it to a small two-man raft, according to a statement released by the Tulare County Sheriff's Department. Minh Tu Quang Nguyen, 25, of Westminster and Scott Neacato, 22, of Los Angeles, were in the raft trying to reach the north shore. "It appears the raft was pulled into a boil (turbulence) and subsequently was partially submerged and capsized due to the extreme current," the statement read. Nguyen and Neacata were swept away by the river, and neither has been located since, officials said. Resident deputies have continued to search the area in search of the two men, said Sgt. Chris Douglas of the Tulare County Sheriff's Department.

The body of Rodney Earl Goggins Jr., 20, was found today in Liberty Reservoir near Eldersburg. Goggins, a Baltimore fire recruit, has been missing since May 29. His body was found around 2:45 p.m. Sunday by a boater who reported seeing a body floating near the shoreline in 1 foot of water. Police have secured the body and it will be transferred to state medical examiner for an autopsy.

BALTIMORE (AP) - A Baltimore fire spokesman says fire officials are waiting to hear if a body found by a boater in Liberty Reservoir is that of a missing recruit. Fire spokesman Kevin Cartwright says the body was found about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Cartwright says the body will be taken to the state medical examiner's officer for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and identity. Cartwright said the fire department was involved in the recovery because 1 of its recruits, Rodney E. Goggins Jr., went missing in the area in late May. The recruit's car was found in the area.

THE discovery of Zach Green’s body has brought some closure to family and friends, but they still want to know how he wound up in the Esopus Creek, the Saugerties man’s father said on Tuesday. Bill Green also said the way his son loved those close to him should serve as a reminder: “Don’t waste a mo-ment." Zach Green, 33, was last seen the night of Jan. 2 on Fair Street in the Uptown Kingston business district. Numerous searches for him in the days, weeks and months that followed came up empty, and the investigation seemingly had stalled until a boater spotted a decomposing body in the Esopus Creek, near the New York State Armory in Kingston, on Sunday afternoon. The body was identified as Green’s on Monday through the use of dental records, though an autopsy was inconclusive about the cause of death. Bill Green described his son as “a real kind of people person” and said he hoped police would continue to investigate the case. Detective Lt. Egidio Tinti of the Kingston Police Department said the investigation will, indeed, move forward. “Obviously, our job is to find out what happened,” Tinti said. Tinti said there was no indication of how long Green’s body had been in the creek, though he noted the clothes found on the body on Sunday were the same ones Green was wearing the night he vanished. The police official also reiterated his department’s belief that Green was not the victim of foul play, noting the autopsy revealed no apparent fractures or other bodily damage. The official autopsy report still is being finalized, and police won’t have the results of toxicology tests for four to six weeks, Tinti said.

Rescuers are still searching for two young men who were thrown from a raft in Kern River. It happened Monday night near Ant Canyon, southeast of Porterville. Tulare County Sheriff's Deputies say 22-year-old Scott Neacato and 25-year-old Minh Nguyen, both from the Los Angeles area, were on a raft in the middle of the river. Neither man had on life jackets, and friends say one of them could not swim. Authorities say the river is very full, fast and cold. The water temperature reaches down to about 45 degrees. This section of the river is known for having multiple class four and five rapids.

KINGSTON, N.Y. -- The body found in the Esopus Creek over the weekend has been identified missing Saugerties man, Zach Green. Kingston Police said an autopsy performed on the body positively identified the 33-year-old. The body was found in the Esopus Creek behind the Kingston Armory Sunday afternoon. The Saugerties resident was last seen on the night of January 2nd outside a restaurant on Fair Street in Kingston. Police found his car abandoned there with his wallet and cell phone inside. Police said they determined it was Green based on dental records. We do not know the cause of death at this point.

Police in Kingston says a boater found the body Sunday afternoon along debris in Esopus Creek. Authorities say the decomposed body had been in the water for an extended period. An autopsy was planned for Monday morning. Officials couldn't say whether the body was that of 33-year-old Zach Green of Saugerties. Green went missing Jan. 2 after last being seen at a Kingston bar.

Authorities have located Isaac Peidra of Wilson and say that the little boy is safe and sound. Investigators say 34-year-old Rey Fernando Baustista Osorio stabbed his wife in the chest around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. She is in the hospital in critical condition. Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Saturday for 5-year-old Isaac Peidra, saying his father is likely taking him either to Wayne County, where he has friends, or Mexico. Investigators say Osorio was last seen in a Black 2001 Nissan Xterra with North Carolina license tag YWT1422.

HUMAN remains found in Cairns swampland have been identified as those of a teenage boy who went missing on his way home from school earlier this year. The skeletal remains of Declan Crouch were found nine days ago just 300 metres from his Machans Beach home but his family had been holding out hope their son was alive until DNA tests confirmed the identity of the bones today. Declan was 13 when he was last seen walking into his yard after school on March 9 and his disappearance sparked the largest search operation in Queensland since the disappearance of Daniel Morcombe in 2003. It is not known how the teenager ended up in the swampland but his family said he would regularly go walking in bushland around Machans Beach. Police had previously said there was no evidence surrounding the discovery of the body to suggest foul play and that they were investigating the possibility the teenager may have taken his own life. Family friend Jane Halls said last week there had been no signs to the family that Declan was depressed before his disappearance.

Thurston County sheriff’s detectives found missing 15-year-old Olympia teen Madeline “Maddy” Harris safe at a Shelton motel Thursday afternoon, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin. Harris had been missing since May 7, when she left home, according to the sheriff’s office. Elwin said detectives began looking for Harris in the Shelton area after someone made an iTunes purchase in her name. Detectives tracked down an IP address for the computer at a Shelton motel Thursday, but she was not there, Elwin said. After that, “old-fashioned detective work” interviewing people in the Shelton area led investigators to another motel room about noon, where they found Harris alone, Elwin said. Elwin said Harris has been reunited with her family. She had not been harmed, he added. Maddy’s stepmother, Kelly Harris, said everyone is happy she has been found safe. “This entire thing has been a nightmare,” she said. The Harris family still plans to have a birthday potluck for Maddy Tuesday at a park.

After search of a rural southeast Texas property, local and federal law enforcement officials determined that information about a possible mass grave was a false alarm, USA TODAY'S Kevin Johnson confirms. Liberty County authorities received a tip from someone claiming to be a psychic. Update at 9:50 p.m. ET: The sheriff's office had received two calls from a person who claimed to be a psychic and said dismembered bodies would be found on the property in Hardin, AP says. Capt. Ray Evans said authorities took the tip seriously in part because the caller had details about the interior of the house that only someone who had seen it could have known. Authorities have a name and number and are trying to track down the caller.

Authorities tell Fox10 News the baby was found by the FBI at a residence. Daniel was found late Monday night or early Tuesday morning safe. The state agency that runs Connecticut's primary psychiatric hospital will now give families and other caregivers the option of initiating a a "Silver Alert" when patients go missing. The decision comes after the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services took more than a year before requesting an alert to help locate Aaron Torres. Torres, who suffers from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, walked away from the Connecticut Valley Hospital on March 17, 2010, while on a supervised break. He has yet to be found. After stories about the hospital's failure to look for Torres and pressure from Torres' mother as well as state Rep. Kelvin Roldan, a family friend, the agency said Tuesday that it will immediately inform families about the option of initiating the alert. It's unfortunate that it has taken this long," Roldan said. "However, this will mean no other family will have to go through what this family has."

GREENE, IA -- An Amber Alert issued for a North Iowa toddler is canceled after the boy was found safe in Rapid City, South Dakota. Butler County authorities issued the Amber Alert at 12:40 am Sunday for 2-year-old Jacob Duncan Peterson. According to the Sheriff's Office, the suspect in his taking is 39-year-old Thomas Joseph Peterson, a homicide suspect. According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, the boy was found at 8:00 am by the South Dakota State Patrol, when troopers found the suspect's vehicle. He was last seen wearing a diaper and a red, white and blue Texas T-shirt. Authorities said the alleged abductor, Thomas Joseph Petersen, 39, is to be considered armed and dangerous. They also said he's a possible homicide suspect. Petersen is described as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 255 pounds. HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A teenager who was reportedly abducted after getting off the school bus in northwest Harris County on Friday has been found safe. Deputies said the girl was found with her father in good condtion. Deputies said the alleged abduction was instead a dispute between divorced parents and that the mother, identifed as Andrea Sauls, has been charged with filing a false report. Authorities said Sauls was also charged with injury to a child after finding bruises on her daughter's body.

RONALD, Wash. - Skeletal remains found last year in a shallow grave in Kittitas County have been identified as a Seattle woman who disappeared nearly 40 years ago, authorities said. Now detectives are trying to determine whether or not she could possibly have been one of the first victims of the notorious serial killer Ted Bundy. The woman, Kerry M. May, was 22 years old and married when she vanished without a trace in June 1972. She was last seen in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle, and her disappearance was reported to Seattle police by her mother. Her remains were found Sept. 6, 2010, on the Suncadia Resort Property near Ronald in Kittitas County, but could not be immediately identified. A bone sample was then sent to the Center for Human Remains in Texas for DNA testing. A composite sketch was generated from the remains by a forensic artist in conjunction with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. Kerry May’s family contacted the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office after seeing the sketch in a media report because they believed it closely resembled Kerry May. On Wednesday, the Center for Human Remains notified the Sheriff’s Office that the bone sample had been matched to a DNA sample of Kerry May’s mother collected in 2004 by King County Sheriff’s Detectives during the course of the Green River Investigation. The case is being actively investigated by the Kittitas County authorities.

POLICE have uncovered human remains near the Cairns suburb of Machans Beach, believed to be those of missing far north Queensland teenager Declan Crouch. Police discovered the remains in a swamp area during searches of bushland near Machans Beach. Declan was 13 when he went missing on March 9. Officers last night sealed off the site, which is a "significant distance" behind the Crouch home. Declan's mother Ruth Crouch said she had been visited by police on Wednesday but declined to comment further. Far North Regional Crime Co-ordinator detective Inspector Ed Kinbacher said the forensic examination was still in its infancy. He said the discovery came about through the unrelenting efforts of a team of investigators. "There was no tip-off. Just solid police work," Inspector Kinbacher said. "They kept going over the ground." Police refused to confirm the clothing found on the human remains matched those of the teenager.

TORONTO — Ontario plans an Amber-alert-style system for seniors with dementia, the province announced Wednesday. Premier Dalton McGuinty described the new tool, known as a Silver Advisory, as a “community alert system, so that if somebody does wander we can respond quickly and in a way that returns the loved one home as quickly as possible.” Ontario has 180,000 seniors affected by some form of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, according to the province. An estimated 60 per cent of them will wander from their homes or caregivers at least once. McGuinty said when it’s developed, the Silver Advisory will be the first of its kind in Canada.

Los Angeles police have taken into custody a man who they believe is “the primary aggressor” in the brutal beating of San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow.
